Last year we did a stock take and were able to import the figures into Quickbooks Online.
This year, we prepared the CSV file and tried to import but it was rejected because the stock date was before our closed date.
The closed date on our system is 31 October 2022.
I have tried to import with the dates of 31 October 2023, 1st November 2023 and 2nd November 2023. None of these dates work.
Quickbooks Support Chat were unable to help and thought that I might like to manually update 1300 stock records. I asked for someone more senior to call back and as yet I have not heard anything.
Does anyone know:
(a) how to import stock figures?
(b) how to get support from Quickbooks? We have been waiting for other issues to be resolved for many years now.
(c) is there a better system available for British businesses at a similar cost?
Thank you.
Hello mikeysmith1992, thanks for posting on the Community
You can batch update stock information by importing a CSV of your products and services list. Make sure that the name of the stock item appears the same as it does in QuickBooks, and an option will appear during the import to Overwrite all values for each product or service with the identical name to replace details of existing items in your account.
Please note that it's only possible to import 1,000 rows at a time. If your list is longer than that, split it up into multiple, smaller files.
The closing date would need to be before the stock item(s) was first used. You can run a report on the stock item (from Products and services > Action column drop-down > Run report) to see this information.
You can get support for QuickBooks Online via the Community, live chat, or by calling 0808 234 5337. This line is open Mon - Fri, 8am - 7pm, free from UK mobile & landlines - please get in touch if you're experiencing any further issues.
Thank you.
Are you saying that it is impossible to import stocktake data into Quickbooks online if we have already bought or sold the product?
Surely that defeats the object of a stocktake.
I am sure we were able to import the stocktake data last year.
I have tried using the live chat but the solution they provided was manually enter stock adjustments for 1400 products. If I am going to have to spend time doing this I'd rather spend the time researching alternative solutions.
What other options are there to import stock adjustments into Quickbooks online?
Hello Mikeysmith1992, thanks for coming back to us, do you still get the same error after you have turned off the close the books from the main cog wheel>account and settings>advanced>accounting section?
Turning off the Close Books option made the import work.
Thank you for your help.
