Let us share some information about why earnings assessment is not calculated automatically in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Maureen-Pearson.
In QBO, sick pay deductions may not automatically reflect in earning assessments because the program may not be set to automatically categorize sick pay as a deductible item for earnings calculations. This could be due to preset system rules or the need for manual configuration to ensure the correct handling of sick payments according to UK regulations.
Let's check the settings in your payroll configurations to ensure that sick pay is set to be recognized as a deductible earning item. If you're using the Standard version, let's make sure your employees meet the qualifying conditions. You can check out this article for the steps and details: Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll.
If you are subscribed to the QBO Advanced version, we need to establish a Period of Incapacity for Work (PIW) to process Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) for your employee. A PIW is a period of illness that lasts for 4 or more consecutive days, including non-working days, bank holidays, and weekends. This is necessary to pay the sick pay. For the steps and details, refer to this article: Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) in QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll.
Once done, we can manually adjust earnings assessments to include sick pay deductions as required. To assist you with this one, please contact our Payroll Support Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and help you with UK payroll requirements to ensure your settings are correctly configured in the program.
