Why, when using the search field on Sales/Customer tab is it returning multiple entries for the same customer name, if you only part-spell it?

This has not happened before. If you fully spell the name of the customer, then you just get one entry. But that surely defeats the purpose!!!!

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, info2097. It sounds like you're experiencing some confusion with the results returning multiple entries for partially spelled names, which can be frustrating.

This behavior is influenced by how the system retrieves and matches names based on the characters you input. When you partially spell a name, the system generates results that include all entries containing those characters, which can result in multiple suggestions—a feature known as autosuggest. By offering relevant suggestions tailored to your input, autosuggest streamlines your search, making it easier to swiftly and accurately locate the right entries.

Additionally, you can run a report for your customers to get a comprehensive overview of your accounts receivable transactions.

Please return to this thread if you have other concerns with the search field on your Customer's tab, info2097. We're here to help you in any way we can.

It is returning multiple IDENTICAL entries.

There is only one customer record, but if I search using just the first 4 characters of that customer name, it returns a whole list of the same entry repeatedly.

If I enter ALL the characters of the customer name, then it displays just one entry.

This is different behaviour to previously.

Thank you for updating the thread regarding the multiple identical entries for a single customer record, @info2097. Let me assist you in resolving this unusual behavior in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

When you mention "repeatedly", does it display the same customer name multiple times? Is the only option the same repeated customer? If so, we can provide browser troubleshooting steps to determine if the issue is related to your browser.

To start, please use a private or incognito window to rule out cache problems in your browser. You can use the following keyboard shortcuts based on the type of browser you are using:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

Once done, go to the QBO page and check if it still repeatedly returns a list of entries. If it works, you can clear your browser's cache. This removes the webpage data that's causing the issue. If a private browser doesn't work, you can use other installed supported browsers as another option.

Consider checking this article to learn how to add, edit, delete, or merge your customers: Add and manage customers in QBO.

Moreover, you can refer to this article to learn how to run a report for your customers, providing a comprehensive overview of your account's receivable transactions: Run a report.

I want to make sure you're all set to manage your customers and their entries, @info2097. If you still need my assistance, don't hesitate to post again. I'd be glad to help you more.
