Hi
I have previously used QB but now returning to it after a using another programme for a few years, when I come to export to Excel they all go to the same default location with a very similar file name. Is there a way to specify where to save to and/or a file name to better identify the file?

Hello BalancingAccct09, again thanks for coming back to us, it is not possible to set a default file name or location when exporting, it would have to be changed manually. so essentially as soon as you click on export to Excel, you should have the option in Excel to save as, and then you can change the name of the file or when you click the export button, your pc may auto-ask you to save it before running it and if that is the case you could change it then.
Thank you for stopping by the Community, BalancingAcct09.
I'm delighted to know that you've decided to use QuickBooks again for your accounting tasks. To ensure a seamless transfer of your data, I just need to gather more details about your concern.
May I know your previous accounting provider? When exporting your file, can you provide the default location and file name? If you faced any issues or errors, it would be really helpful if you could share those details.
Thank you in advance. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Have a wonderful rest of the day, BalancingAcct09.
Most of my career was in Accountancy Practice and supported many clients on Sage but with some using QuickBooks, when I left practice I was on QB and did a course to advise others in using QB and have the pen to prove it, then switched jobs and used Sage Instant, now back to QB, I am a bit rusty.
My default location for saving is Download, and file name would be something like, name+of+company Transactions+Report (2). Clearly I might be downloading several files and then working on them shortly afterwards so differentiating them would be very useful.
Thanks
Hello BalancingAccct09, thanks for coming back to us, what exactly are you trying to export out of your QuickBooks account in Excel?
Thanks, it could be anything, but so far I have exported some standard reports Balance Sheet, Financial Activity Report or TB, or perhaps from within those reports drill down into transaction listings. The problem would be if I exported thrre transaction listings all with the same/similar name.
