We sell stock products and non-stock products but QB separates them into different income accounts so we have a sub-account on the P&L - eg:
Sales (which is non stock items)
Sales:Sale of stock
Total Sales
We'd like to stop the Sale of stock from being a sub-account so we just have one line for sales on the P&L
I hope that makes sense!!!
Hello Tracey2972, Thanks for reaching out about stock and non-stock products and how they show on the P and L reports. In order to change so you have one line on the sales on the report you can click the little arrow to the left of the word sales and it will minimise everything in that category to one line.
Or if you want it gone fully you would need to edit the chart of account income account the product is linked to by going to the cog and products and services and edit and then editing the income account, you should then see an also update t his on historical transactions tick box. Then save.
Any questions let us know.
Hi, thanks for coming back to me.
We want the line gone completely so it's all in one account.
I've had a look at the individual product lines but am unable to change the income account.
The account for stock items in the chart of accounts (which is the sub account) has the detail type as Sales of Product Income but the non stock items go to an account that has the detail type of Service / Fee income.
Can I change one of them to be the same as the other and remove the sub account?
Hello Tracey2972, To make two chart of accounts merge into one chart of account. First, you would need to go to the chart of accounts and hit on edit by the chart of account(you may see reports or account history, and the drop-down next to that there will be the edit option) you want to remove the sub-account from, you should see the sub-account box ticked. You can then untick it and save it. Once done go into the chart of account you want to merge and name it the same as the other account, same spelling same capitalisation, it will bring up a message about merging accounts, then okay this message. We do have to advise once done it can not be undone. All transactions will then be under one account. If you're unsure about doing that you can always reach out to our customer support on the phone or via chat and they can guide you on a screen share.
