How can I add discounts to invoices on a line by line basis rather than an overall discount at the end of the invoice

Hello stewart3,

There is currently no feature for a line by line discount. The workaround would be to create a duplicate product, with a discounted rate, and mention that this is the discounted product in the name. Then, when setting up the invoice, you can select this product and it will show as 'discounted' on the customer's side.

Please use the cog wheel within your account to leave feedback - your suggestion will be submitted directly to the developers who will look into implementing this in future updates, if possible.

Thanks,

Talia

Strange - the facility to have a line discount is already in the Indian version of QBO - why is it not possible in the UK version?

Until, if, it shows up in the UK version there is a work around, though it is not line by line

create a service item that links to the sales income discount account

enter the rate as a negative decimal representing the % of discount

on the invoice, sub total the items to be discounted and enter that total in the qty block of the discount item

Are there plans to allow line by line discounts for the UK version?

Hi birdy5

There are no immediate plans to introduce the line by line discount however we have raised it as a product enhancement request to our engineers.

I would also like to request this as a feature to be added

Is there any news on when this feature may be available. I receive varied discounts from my suppliers so I need and easy way to forward this to my customers.

Really annoying that this feature still isn't available as competitive platforms like Xero have this in place

Thanks for requesting an update about this, @RobGreen,

We recognize the need to let all QuickBooks Online users customize their Dashboard view. At the moment, our engineers have not released an update on when this feature will be available in the program.

They are continually working to make it easier for you to manage your business and get your accounting done. I'll also submit a follow-up request to our developers about this preference.

Don't worry, once they roll out a new update, it will be automatically applied to online accounts without you manually installing them.

In the meantime, you can follow Rustler's suggestion to create a service item for the discount and manually add it as a line item on the customer's invoice. Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Gear Icon and choose Products and Services.
  2. Press the New button and select Service.
  3. Enter the service description.
  4. Mark the “I sell this product/service to my customers” box.
  5. In the Income account section, choose and expense category (i.e. Other Expense).
  6. Hit Save and Close.

To add the service item on the invoice, here's how:

  1. Open a new invoice by clicking the + New button on the toolbar.
  2. Click on Add line.
  3. From the Product or Service drop-down column, pick the charge convenience fee you created.
  4. Select Save and Close.

Stay on top of our product updates and feature releases by visiting the QuickBooks Blog: Intuit Blog.

Feel free to visit our forum again if you have other questions about creating processing fees. I’m always here to help. Have a good one!

How can I add discounts to invoices on a line by line basis rather than an overall discount at the end of the invoice

Hi Jen,

Can I ask why the feature we are all asking for is available in India but not on the UK version of the software?

We have different features in the UK product versus India products versus US products. We do look at the need and the workability as well as demand before we can look to implement something so it is definitely worth adding this in the feedback section in the cog

Thanks

Hi Paul1601, we do not currently have any information on the implementation of this feature at present; if you haven't already, we'd be grateful if you could leave feedback for this (Cog > Feedback) as features are implemented on customer demand amongst other variables. 🙏
