How do I work out my income/expenses for each month. QuickBooks only shows current month, last month, last 3 months and last year. It’s not showing jan/feb 2021. I went Self-Employed September 2020 so only inputted from then

I can help you with adding or categorizing your transactions, @userpete-coates

If you're trying to categorise the transactions from your account, you can filter the Date from the Transactions menu to view all the transactions from January to February 2021.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu and click the Date dropdown.
  2. Choose Custom date from the Date dropdown and set the start and end date.
  3. Click on Apply to view all the transactions.

In case you're trying to add your January to February transactions, then you can manually add this transaction to your QBSE account. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu and click on the Add transaction button.
  2. Provide all the necessary information like the date, transaction description, amount, type, category, notes, and receipt.
  3. Click on Save.

Here's more information on how to add those transactions in QBSE: Manually add transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

The following article will guide you in choosing the right category for your transactions: About SA103F Categories

I see the “filter by date” but when I click on it, it disappears 🤷

Thanks for getting back to us, @userpete-coates.

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to fix the filter by date in QuickBooks Self Employed (QBSE). We need first to identify if it is a data issue. Browser cache does help speed up your web browsing, but sometimes this data may be corrupted and can cause problems in QuickBooks.

To isolate the issue, let's pull up your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser. This browser prevents the cache from being stored on your computer. Here's how to open it:

  • Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P
  • Safari: Command+Shift+N

If you can click it, then your main browser may have too much historical data from previously visited websites which causes this kind of behavior. To ensure this doesn't happen again, it's a good idea to clear the cache of the browser you're using. The following article contains the additional insight, as well as steps for the supported browsers: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

Also, I'm adding these articles that will help you add your transactions manually and how to categorise them:

Let me know the results after trying the steps above. Should you have other questions, I'm happy to answer them. Just post it here as a comment and I'll take a look at it.
