Let me help you understand how to create estimates in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @stanleybradshaw6.
When creating estimates, you might want to provide a proposal for work. An estimate form may look like an invoice, but instead of charging your customer, it provides them with information about your proposal and the expected cost. Once the work is completed and you're ready to bill the customer, you can convert the estimate into an invoice, saving you the trouble of entering the information twice.
Please know that your estimates and invoice format will depend if you're using the old or new versions.
Here's how to create estimates:
- Go to + New, then select Estimate.
- Choose Add customer, then select a customer from the drop-down arrow or click + Add new to enter the customer's info, and Save to confirm.
- Click the drop-down arrow from the Product or service field, then add products and services, or click + Add new to enter the item, and click Save.
- If you have previously saved a rate for your product or service, it will automatically displayed in the Amount column. You can then adjust the quantity or amount as needed.
- The status of a new estimate is Pending by default. Use the Pending drop-down arrow to update the estimate status.
- To customize your estimates, click Gear icon, then Manage workflows, select the drop-down arrow on the section you need to customize and choose what info displays on your form by turning the switches on/off. A preview displays on the form as you make changes.
- Click Save to confirm.
- Click Review and send to email your estimates. Edit the email message, if needed, and then click Send estimate.
