Quickbooks Desktop Reference ID

My understanding of the reference field (e.g. where you type in a check number) is that you are free to enter alphanumeric numbers - for example, A101. But for some reason I can't confirm through searches, etc.

Can someone confirm that ref can contain more than numerals - that there are no circumstances with exporting, ,etc. that would cause any problems?

Quickbooks Desktop Reference ID

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community, @parker5095. I'll share some details about entering alphanumeric numbers in the reference field when creating a transaction in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

You're right. In QuickBooks, you can enter alphanumeric numbers in the reference field when creating transactions. Also, QuickBooks has an automatic number system. That said, from the first transaction you enter, it'll start counting, and the numbers will follow consecutively for your reference field. You also don't have to worry about exporting the transactions outside of QuickBooks since It'll still retain the information you entered.

Additionally, I've got you this article to help you handle payments in QBDT: Take and process payments in QuickBooks Desktop.

You can also check this page in case you'd like modify a report to show specific data from your business: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
