It's nice to have you here in the QuickBooks Community, @budd02. Let's work together to correct the filing period of your Value Added Tax (VAT) returns so you can submit them in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

First, the reason behind the issue of being unable to submit VAT returns is more likely the incorrect filing period. To rectify this, let's set the frequency to Quarterly instead of Monthly to show the usual 3-month duration. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Taxes tab.
  2. Select Edit VAT and click Edit Settings.
  3. Select Quarterly in the How often do you submit a VAT return to HMRC section.
  4. Fill in the rest of the necessary fields and hit Save.

If you've encountered a specific error message when submitting your VAT returns, we'd appreciate it if you could share them here. This way, we can identify the root of the issue and provide the most appropriate response. You may also upload screenshots so we can have a visual reference.

Moreover, you'll be interested in generating a VAT Detail report in QBO to see the entries involved in each box on the VAT return. Doing so streamlines the process of filing and submitting your taxes.

Please don't hesitate to swing by the Community for any follow-up concerns you have concerning VAT returns. We're available 24/7 to address your questions. Keep safe and have a great rest of the day.
