Error submitting VAT return

I am trying to submit a VAT return for a non-MTD client, have done this many times before. I am getting an error message that I haven't come across before .... "Submission of this document has failed due to departmental specific business logic in the body tag". What does this mean ???? Bev

Error submitting VAT return

Hi Bev, Appologies for that I thought you used the Quickbooks Online version rather then our Desktop version of Quickbooks. In Desktop Quickbooks so it could be that your going to the wrong place, if you click on VAT>FILE VAT>FILE VAT and do the submission there. If you are still having an issue with it please can you ring the Desktop support line on 0808 168 9535 and you will be able to set up a screenshare with them and they will be able to see what your seeing and help got it resolved for you there.

Error submitting VAT return

Hello Bev,

Welcome to the Community page,

If it is non-MTD it cannot be submitted through QBO. As HMRC discontinued 3rd party XML submissions. So you would either have to send it via the bridging tool on HMRC's website or become MTD registered to then submit it via QBO.

Thanks for your reply Ashleigh. I am a QB desktop user, does the same apply ? I am aware of the HMRC portal changes and it did not affect this client for his last quarter submission. Bev
