How do i add VAT to Quickbooks Self Employed

Hello,

You unfortunately cannot upgrade from Self Employed to the Online products. This is because SE is single entry bookkeeping based, whereas Online is double entry - and so the data cannot migrate correctly. You will need to create a new subscription and either connect your bank or upload CSV files for a quick way of re-entering old transactions.

Thanks,

How do i add VAT to Quickbooks Self Employed

Sorry for the all the questions; i havent started using the Self Employed software yet as my tax year is from 5th April so i would just need to connect to my bank from then however my vat period is quarterly FEB, MARCH, APRIL and so on, so i doesnt run along side the yearly tax period. SO could i cancel my self employed app and set up a new  online one?

Does the online allow mileage like SE? Could you send me a link to the product i would require?

Hello,

That is correct, you can cancel it and create a new online subscription. It does not track mileage unfortunately. You can find a link for creating an Online subscription through https://quickbooks.intuit.com/uk/pricing/ - the Online products are either Essentials or Plus.

Thanks,

I think you should make it very clear in your advertising that QuickBooks SE does not support VAT. I think a lot of clients will be temped by the pricing of SE, set it up and then be disappointed there is no handling of VAT. We are all being forced by UK HMRC to get software to perform VAT payments. I've just wasted time and money.

Hi nigelwest,

You can export certain data from the QuickBooks Self-Employed account but you would need to remap this using the tools in QuickBooks Online as the systems are incompatible for a direct data migration, as one is based on single-entry bookkeeping and the other double-enty.

Thanks

You should make it much CLEARER that SE is not suitable for VAT returns which was the whole reason I started with your company ! Surely a question on set up was are you vat registered???

Thanks for joining this thread, cjra.

I appreciate you for sharing your thoughts with us. To ensure your voice is heard, I'll be sure to relay your idea on adding some qualifying questions before the initial product setup to our developers for future product enhancements.

Since QuickBooks Self-Employed doesn't have a VAT feature, you'll want to consider switching to our QuickBooks Online products.

Here's how:

  1. Go to https://quickbooks.intuit.com/uk/pricing/.
  2. Choose your desired plan.
  3. Hit Buy now.

Also, you can visit our QuickBooks Blog to be updated with our recent feature updates.

You can always visit us again if you have any other questions. It would be my pleasure to help. Wishing you continued success.
