How do I open prior VAT returns

This very question has been asked 4 years ago but the link to the answer is not found. I run Desktop Premier 2013 and the print/email invoices and purchase orders works fine but printing a prior VAT return, gives an error message saying "You need PDF software  to view and print this reconcilation report. Adobe Reader is a free pdf viewer available for download"  - I already have Adobe installed and works fine with printing Bank Reconciliation reports. What has gone wrong and can I get a patch or a link to get this up and running again? If there is anyone out there that can help it would be appreciated.

How do I open prior VAT returns

I appreciate you for sharing the screenshot, Richard. Since you are using QuickBooks Desktop Premier 2013, which has already been discontinued in the United Kingdom, we are unable to provide you with a security patch. However, I can guide you through some troubleshooting steps to help you successfully access and print your prior VAT returns.

To begin, you'll need to restart your computer. If this doesn't resolve the problem, you can reset your temp folder permissions. I recommend collaborating with your IT team while performing these troubleshooting steps.

Below are the steps on how to reset your temp folder permissions:

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open the RUN command.
  2. Type %TEMP% and hit Enter.
  3. Right-click an empty area of the temp folder and choose Properties.
  4. Select Security.
  5. Ensure all user names and groups in Security have Full Control.
  6. Once permissions are set to Full Control, save the file as a PDF again in QuickBooks.

Once done, you can try printing your prior VAT returns. If the issue persists, you can update the print spooler service properties.

Here's how:

  1. Right-click Start and select Run.
  2. Enter Services.msc and hit Ok.
  3. Search for Print Spooler service.
  4. Right-click on Print Spooler service and choose Properties
  5. Go to Startup type and pick Automatic
  6. Click Apply, then OK.
  7. Right-click on Print Spooler service and select start to initiate the service.

Alternatively, you can use the Verify and Rebuild Data tool in QuickBooks Desktop. This helps identify and repair data inconsistencies or issues within your company file.

Additionally, if you want to access your past QuickBooks Desktop reports and download them as a CSV file to your computer for safe keeping, refer to this link: Access and view your QuickBooks Desktop reports online.

We are dedicated to helping you manage your business accounting activities smoothly. Take your time with the troubleshooting steps, and if you encounter any issues or have questions about printing your prior VAT returns, don't hesitate to reach out.
