Hello Community Users! We just wanted to pop in and add some clarification to the thread. QuickBooks Online Bridging Software supports Standard and Cash schemes. Businesses whose home currency is not GBP are currently not supported for MTD.
If your business is not on standard or cash schemes you will not currently be able to use the bridging software.
To submit a MTD VAT return using the bridging software in QuickBooks, make sure you have authorised your QuickBooks to interact with HMRC.
We have included a link to a help article on submitting VAT returns through the bridging software as a step by step guide. Any questions just ask and we'd be happy to help.
Greetings, @Rifkin.
Make sure to enable the MTD and grant QuickBooks authority to interact with HMRC for the Bridging or spreadsheet option to show up.
Here’s how:
Once enabled, you’ll be directed to HMRC page. Connect QuickBooks by following the steps below:
For the detailed instructions and screenshots, you can refer to this article: Authorise QuickBooks to interact with HMRC – MTD for small business.
Now you’re ready to file a VAT return using the bridging software. Simply go to the Taxes menu, and click the Submit drop-down arrow to select the Submit with a spreadsheet option. Here’s an article for more information: Submit a VAT return – MTD for small businesses.
See QuickBooks bridging solution – FAQ for future reference.
If you have any other questions or follow-ups, leave a comment below. I’m more than happy to help. Have a good one!
Hi KhimG,
Thank you for your fast reply, however I already did all those steps and I am authorized and have Making Tax Digital sign.
I don't have "Submit Return" option only "Prepare return" with the following option: SmartScan your retrun - View summary - View VAT details - View exception details.
Kind regards
Rifkin
Thanks for getting back to me and providing the option you’re seeing inside QBO, @Rifkin.
You need to click Prepare return, not its drop-down arrow to get the Submit to HMRC button. I’m adding screenshots below for visual reference:
After clicking Submit to HMRC, follow the instructions provided in this article to complete the filing process: Submit a Vat return – MTD for small businesses.
Let me know if you have any questions. I’m always here ready to help. Take care!
Hi again,
I need to use figures from spreadsheet for this submission not the ones from QBO as allocations from previous submissions has to be reconciled. Your option will only submit figures from QB calculations.
I appreciate your help and guidance on the matter very mych - many thanks
Hi, Rifkin.
Since you don’t have the option to submit it via spreadsheet, let’s try running it again through a private window. The web browser keeps files in its cache and saves the pages you have previously visited. Sometimes the stored files can affect communication between the browser and QuickBooks which can cause issues like this.
Here’s how to start browsing privately:
If you’ll see the option in this settings, you can clear your browser’s cache or use a different one. But, if the same issue continues, I’d recommend contacting the support team. They’ll be able to launch an investigation and help you fix it. Here’s how to reach them:
Please feel comfortable on posting here again if you need anything else.
