I’ve set my vat rate to 20% and FRS to 16.5%. Why does the vat only calculate correctly if I in put sales with vat? Box 6 is then incorrect as it should be net.

Hello neill1,

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I'd be glad to lend a hand with any questions you may have about the Box 6 section of the VAT return.

Box 6 from the return only shows the total value of sales and all other outputs excluding any VAT. To ensure it shows the correct information, you can run the VAT reports available in QuickBooks and review the transactions.

If you need the steps on creating adjustments, please refer to these steps:

  1. On the left panel, go to Taxes.
  2. Go to the VAT tab.
  3. Click Submit return.
  4. Click the Adjust option next to the box you want to make changes.

I'm adding a screenshot below for your visual guide:

If you're still unable to succeed with making the corrections, I recommend seeking additional assistance from our QuickBooks Support Team. They'll be able to lend a hand and guide you with the step-by-step process on this.

Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Log into your QuickBooks account.
  2. Click the Help option in the upper-right corner.
  3. Click the Contact us hyperlink.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have further questions about the amount from Box 6 and I'll be sure to get back to you.
