I was unable to submit a normal VAT Return via QuickBooks due to various errors. I have other software to file VAT Returns via MTD. However, now I am trying to mark the VAT Return as Submitted within QB and keep hitting a brick wall! This means that when the time comes I will not be able to generate the next VAT Return!

Hello Ayo-crownkingacc,
Welcome to the Community page,
So if you have submitted the vat return somewhere else, what you would do in QuickBooks is turn off MTD, once it has been turned off, if you go to the return and click on prepare return then click on mark as filed this will then open the next return up for you.

Many thanks. I actually tried this last night without success but will try it again.
Did not work, I'm afraid. Just cannot find anywhere to mark the VR as submitted. Still wanting me to take action with connecting to HMRC.
Hi ayo-crownkingacc, thanks for getting back to us; the Take Action button would mean that MTD is still connected as this is a response from HMRC - does clicking the Take Action button prompt you to mark the return as filed, and do the start and end dates of the open return match what has already been submitted to HMRC?
Hi,
I am in a similar situation. Moved to Quickbooks for MTD but no idea what to do to mark the previous items included on my previous manual VAT return.
Even after clicking the Take action button and hitting the later option for MTD it is still locked up.
Not a great start to be stuck like this.
Is there another option to reconcile or flag the previously submitted items as submitted after with or without having MTD enabled?
Thanks and kind regards, David
Hi,
No need to worry, I turned MTD with HMRC back on and followed the submission process.
As you would expect, HMRC recognised that the VAT return had already been submitted and you were able to mark the transactions as submitted without re-submitting the return again! :)
Problem solved.
Cheers, David
