Post - Brexit EU VAT treatment

Hi,

I'm a UK VAT registered company. I am going to supply my products to an EU VAT registered company in the Republic of Ireland. What VAT code should I use (in QBO) for both the product and carriage, to ensure that my next VAT return has the information in the right boxes? I think I should use 0.0% ECG, but it could be 0.0% Z. I do know that the supply of goods should be zero VAT, but I'm unsure if it's effectively a recharge, or zero-rated.

Anyone got any ideas, Quickbooks support information seems a little thin on post-Brexit stuff.

Hello, Nelly.

I'm here to help you decide on what VAT codes to use on your product and carriage.

The 0.0% ECG Code is reflected on boxes 6 and 8 for sales and boxes 2, 4, 7, and 9 or purchases. While the 0.0% Z code is shown on boxes 1 and 6 for sales and boxes 4 and 7 for purchases.

If you haven't come across this article, I recommend reading it for more information about the VAT codes: Common VAT Codes. This can help you decide on which code is correct for your products. Also, HMRC has guidelines regarding the codes, too. Check their VAT articles list for more details.

In addition, we did publish an article regarding the Brexit event. Brexit FAQ. Check it out if you want to get the details on the changes in QuickBooks Online after Brexit.
