Is anyone else busy preparing their clients' accounts using the wonderful QuickBooks Desktop at the moment and feeling very sad (and mystified) by the fact that next December we'll be suffering the woeful inadequacies of QuickBooks online? Just doing accounts for a £500K Turnover company and making YE adjustments and, as expected, its a breeze as Desktop just does everything right... the accountants version automatically runs all reports showing a debit and credit column, when you drill down into a transaction and amend it you then get back to the report you were working on (not some other nonsense), I can report on almost anything with absolute ease, I can open as many reports as I want, I never have to worry about slow internet issues or cookies causing problems, I can journal to the VAT account... it is like preparing to say goodbye to a trusted colleagues who is retiring.... yes that sentimental but that's the general feeling after 15+ years of using the product! I do use QBO for quite a handful of clients (they chose it themselves) and know it well, so any wishful thinking that I can discover how to make the dippy younger brother live up to the task are lost! Please Intuit come to your senses and don't discontinue the best bookkeeping product on the UK market!
Our top priority is keeping you in compliance, buzz21.
The management have taken the decision to discontinued QuickBooks Desktop for UK customer. But you will continue to receive full support through June 30, 2023, despite the fact that we won't be releasing a new edition of QuickBooks Desktop.
The decision is localised to the UK only. This is due to the market condition, the new Making Tax Digital for VAT rules, and ongoing modifications to tax laws. Additionally, the drop in demand for desktop software and increasing demand for cloud based application is one of the factor for this changes.
We have already sent you a notification to give you enough time to get ready and provide you the greatest migration experience possible. I see how important it is for you to keep using the program since it provides all the features your business need. For now, we recommend moving to QuickBooks Online since we've partnered with Movemybooks, a self-service data conversion tool that automatically converts and transfers your QuickBooks Desktop data to QuickBooks Online.
Before migrating you're data, you may need to create an account for Movemybooks for smooth transition.
Here's how:

I'm not sure they will change their decision. UK is the first step before they continue their roadmap for the US and CA regions.
HI Giovann_G. From a customer perspective it is clear that your top priority is actually increasing your profits....
There are no new MTD for VAT rules whatsoever so it isnt to do with that at all. MTD for VAT returns submit without issue and are on a practical level identical to the VAT returns the software was capable of submitting for years before that.
As for MTD for income tax, firstly this doesn't exist yet and secondly if Intuit are not capable of adding some submission functionality to submit a handful of figures on a quarterly basis. Its just a good excuse to cull your product line and increase your profitability. Intuit are looking silly by forgetting they are talking to accountants and bookkeepers here... we know all about UK tax regulation and businesses removing services to increase profits.
A bug reason I am so upset with all this is the way that Intuit have gone about it. Woeful customer care from start to finish! I love your "For now" comment re the data migration tool. It is clearly lost on Intuit that telling us all we must move ahead of the switch off but not yet having sorted out their migration solution is a real joke.
Yes Fiat I think you are right. Use the UK as guinea pigs. Misinterpret the customer reaction by focusing on all the new QBO subscriptions (and not the utter dissatisfaction of a good proportion) and then roll it out nationwide.
Hi buzz21 Thanks for your valued feedback, we'll certainly pass it on to our developers for their consideration.
