Re-registering for VAT

Hi there, if anyone could help I would be very grateful.

I successfully registered for VAT and posted 2 returns digitally. All good.

Then came COVID and I de-registered for VAT.  From what I understand the correct process / workaround is to have zero VAT as your default VAT rate as quickbooks doesn't de-register itself.

Then came the economic recovery and I re-registered for VAT, but Quickbooks isn't liking my re-registration.

It looks like it still wants to file the old returns for for the old now de-registered VAT number.

Any ideas for a work around - or do I have to go to Sage!!

Thank you very much if you can be bothered to give this any thought.

Best regards

Re-registering for VAT

Hi James, thanks for your post - we're sorry to see our support team were unable to resolve this with you today.

When de-registering for VAT, you can select the default option for 'No VAT' within the settings (Cog > Account & settings > Advanced > Default tax rate selection).

As you have filed periods prior to becoming de-registered on QuickBooks, you would need to mark the periods in between as 'marked as filed' on the system to move onto the period where you became re-registered. You can do this by temporarily turning off MTD in QuickBooks > Select prepare return > Mark as filed.

You can then edit the VAT registration number in your tax profile (VAT > Edit VAT > Edit settings) and re-connect MTD using your new gateway details.

This is a moan, but I've just spent the last 1 hour with support, who passed me to 3 different people, each saying it was out of their area of knowledge,  and then they all disappeared - not very good Quickbooks

I see. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. As much as I would love to assist you with your vat concern but it's out of my scope and I wasn't trained for it. Instead, allow me to transfer you to the right department. Would that be fine with you?

You can do , but you might see that you are the 3rd person already I've been passed to is there a way to make sure I get to the correct person?
