VAT Adj

Hi

Looking for some help with QB online, it's for a non-profit organisation in the UK

We are able to claim our VAT back at any time within 5 years, Also, we don’t charge vat ( yep that’s correct for our type of charity)

I’m having the accounts independently examined,  the guy says I need to get the NET INCOME/(EXPENDITURE) to match the NET OTHER INCOME

Total Other Income £13,247.32

NET OTHER INCOME £13,247.32

NET INCOME/(EXPENDITURE) £14,351.05

The reason it's out is because we need to claim back VAT then they would match

How can I make this amendment, the Bank & Quickbooks do match.

Thanks

Let's work together to make the necessary adjustment, pmlewisuk.

When discrepancies arise due to unrecorded tax reclaim/rebate, entering the reimbursement will help align these figures, making the financial statements more accurate.

For successfully refunded VAT on eligible expenses, the credited amount is often classified as additional income in the organization's records. Follow these steps to log the transaction if you use the VAT feature in QuickBooks Online:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. Select VAT, then pick a period from the All returns drop-down menu.
  3. Click the View summary drop-down list, then choose Record Refund.
  4. Set the appropriate bank account and make sure to select Refund under Payment Type.
  5. Enter the date and amount.
  6. Add a memo as needed, then hit Save.

Otherwise, you can record it as a bank deposit affecting the correct income category. To ensure the accuracy, compliance with regulations, and proper documentation of all entries, I encourage consulting a qualified accounting professional.

Hi,

Unfortunately, it is missing that row within taxes /VAT for the last financial year, only the current year is showing.

The balance sheet shows it as current liabilities/ VAT control

Hello Mark, thanks for coming back to us, so my thought is that it could be that the vat return for the last financial year wasn’t filed in QBO if it is not showing there, It is worth checking the drop down next to the ALL vat returns too, the steps from the previous answer was pointing to the record refund next to the filed vat period.
