Hi Jayne4
It does not have a limit but a large number such as this can slow things down as it is technically a small business product. We can certainly send feedback to our product developers as regards testing the product.for larger lists currently it would be a case of shortening the date rang before running the report to negate that issue.
I appreciate the need for this to pull through all products you can also provide feedback here
Thanks
Emma
Hello Jayne,
Welcome to Community.
Could you please include a screenshot of the error you have received? I have tried running this report and have not been able to replicate the issue you have mentioned.
Thanks,
Hi
Thanks for getting back to me.
Screen shot attached.
I think the issue might be data volume related as this has only just started happening and I run it regularly...I usually do an export to Excel and this started failing with a very unhelpful message so I ran the report and got the message you can see in the screen shot.
I think it is actually showing all of the data?
Let me know if you need more info.
Hello jayne4,
Could you please try clearing your cache and cookies (you may need to search how to do this in your browser)? Make sure the time range is set at all time if it gives you that option. Once you have done this, refresh QuickBooks and then log back in and run the report again. Could you please then let us know if you are getting the same error?
Thanks,
Talia
Hi
I have done that and it has made no difference - I also tried to run the report on a different PC and get the same error.
I think it is to do with the volume of data. We have nearly 12,000 items and we started using QB online in April 2015 transferring all of our data across from QB desktop...the data we transferred goes from 2004..
Is there anything else we can check?
Hello Jayne,
Am I correct in that it is showing all the products, even though it is giving you that error message?
Thanks,
Talia
Yes I believe it is..
However it concerns me that as the data grows it may stop working altogether or only start showing some of them.
Also I used to be able to export it straight to excel - now I have to run the report then export it to excel.
Hi Jayne4
It may cause a slowing down if you have 12,000 plus items when running the report are these all active items? When you mention you could export list before do you mean from the product and services section?
Thanks
Emma
Hi,
Yes they are all active - we sell 2ndhand hifi so the range of items we buy is vast, and we could buy something once and then not buy it again for 10 years or never buy it again...we only add items to the system that we have actually purchased so there is nothing on there that I would want to make inactive..
I have created my own version of the product/service list - just with a few extra columns - usually I just open the list of reports and in the far right action column choose "Export as Excel".
I have just tried that - so that I could let you know what message it came up with and it is now actually working and not giving an error.
However it is still giving the "Date range is too long" when I just run the report from the list of reports.
Hello Jayne,
As it is only showing you the error when you run the report - we believe this down to the amount of stock you have within the system, as you suggested. If you get this error again but you seem to not be able to view all your items, please get back in touch with us, but we are confident that this is just due to the stock amount slowing down the system when trying to generate the report.
Thanks,
Talia
Thank you.
That seems fine - but it does concern me as our product list is only going to increase in size and this report is very important as we run it every week. It will cause problems if it does not work.
I moved onto QB online from QB desktop as QB desktop could not handle the number of records we had in the system - I was told that QB online had no limits on data - but it seems it does.
I would appreciate if you could see what further investigations you can make to avert any future issues. i.e. perhaps do some volume testing.
