intuit introduced the SKU in 2015
and has yet to upgrade the print routine for PO's, despite repeated requests, so no you can not get the SKU number on a printed/emailed PO
Showing the SKU on your purchase order will only take few steps to setup, kbfholdings.
Here’s how:
This should create a separate SKU column in your purchase order.
Please let me know if you have further clarifications.
This still does not work as this just adds one field at the top of the purchase order for SKU.
Hi there, Salch.
Customizing the PO form to show a column for SKU is one of the most requested feature. For now, we can temporarily add the SKU numbers in the Description field. Please see the sample screenshots below:
I will personally send another feature request about adding more customization options for PO template.
If you have any questions, we are here to help.
SO this means we have to go through all products and copy the SKU into the description field correct?
Hi, Salch.
To include the SKU number when printing the purchase order, you'll need to copy and enter the information on the description filed. This way, your supplier can see that information.

Hi, has this feature been added to QBO yet.
I can see the SKU while populating the form, but not when printing it.
Currently, I'm just adding the SKU codes in the description.
Thank you!
Thank you for joining the thread, @Q-B Online User 1.
Yes, we can add the SKU information under the SKU column when recording the purchase order. However, the details won't show up when printing the transaction. To include the details when printing the transaction, we have to add it under the Description column.
I understand the importance of populating the SKU when printing purchase orders in QuickBooks Online. I'll take note of this and pass along the suggestion to our product developers. This way, they'll be able to know about the features needed and might consider this in the coming updates.

Hello there, allyd3251,
We don't have a specific timeframe on when this will be available. For now, you can add the SKU on the Description column. This will show on your customer's end and will also be printed.
I'll send another feature request about adding SKU options for the Purchase Order template.

Guys, this has been a requirement for YEARS now. Why the heck has QBO taken so long to STILL not have implemented this? This is a BASIC requirement for most businesses the world over, especially retail businesses like mine!
Hello I am joining the party here wanting to also display the SKU on the purchase order. Copying and pasting it in description is not a valid response. If I am going through the trouble of doing that, I might as well just go back to my old pre-quickbooks way and just email my supply house the part numbers I want to order and then save $70 a month.
I find it insulting that a simple code change like this, is being blatantly ignored for +6 months.
I am also adding to the convo. I am desperately needing this option added. I have spent hours updating descriptions and titles to finally show the sku numbers. But now, when the feature is added, we will all have to go back through and adjust our descriptions so that the sku isn't repeated.
One, slightly less annoying, option is to use the upload feature to add and modify your products. I just created a master excel sheet so that I can quickly modify a title, description, or price and re-upload the sheet. (most of my products have very similar descriptions and titles so it works for me)
I found this a little less time consuming rather than editing each existing product separately.
We absolutely need to have the SKU# showing in the printed version of the purchase order! In addition we need a simple and quick method to enable/disable this function
Absolutely ridiculous. How is a supplier supposed to know what you want to order if the PO doesn't even have the SKU or item to be able to order it? Why on earth it shows on the screen and can't be printed is crazy. A supplier needs to know what item. Writing SKU in description is time consuming and makes no sense.
Chiming in. How is this not already a thing. My customers need this yesterday.
Intuit is a leader in accounting software with almost limitless resources I just cant believe, after using QB desktop for decades, that they missed this essential feature and its taking so long to fix it? Why.........?
Yes count me in, we should be able to add a Column Field and call it whatever we want. I would like to be able to manually add a Column in a PO and call it CasePaks and manually enter the quantity of casepacks there so manufacturer knows not only the Quantity we are ordering but how many MasterCartons (Casepaks) that adds up to. Let us know when Quickbooks adds this type feature..
I can't believe that this has not been fixed. We need to be able to add the SKU and customize the PO, just like the invoice. I am looking into switching to something else way too many limitations, even with the top level package.
Has this issue been resolved as I am considering moving from myob to quickbooks?
Hello there, Mattblue.
I appreciate you for considering using QuickBooks, and I see how relevant this option for your business. However, adding the SKU column when printing the Purchase Order (PO) is still unavailable. We can use the workaround provided by my colleague GarlynGay to make the SKU visible to our customers.
For now, I cannot tell when adding this feature will be ready. I would suggest checking our blog website so you'll be updated with the latest releases features and review if it's included in the update.
If you have more questions to ask, please post them below. I hope you're okay. Take care and stay safe.
