I no longer have any employees so how do i close my payroll and notify HMRC?

Closing the payroll scheme depends on what payroll version you're using, @colette8.

 

Let me discuss it with you and walk you through the steps.

 

The option to close the payroll scheme is only available if you're using Advanced Payroll. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to Business overview, and click on Reports.
  2. Go to Payroll HMRC Reports, and select Employer Payment Summary (EPS).
  3. Select Submit EPS.
  4. Hit Final EPS for the tax year.
  5. Hit This is the final EPS because the PAYE scheme has ceased.
  6. Select the closure date.
  7. Click on Submit EPS. After the closure, HMRC will then be notified.

 

Furthermore, you can inform HMRC of the closure using the free Basic Tools software if you're using the Standard Payroll. This is an online form that enables you to close your PAYE scheme. Once the form is submitted, HMRC will process your request and send you a confirmation email.
