Restoring a company file

I was having issues with my company file after transferring from desktop. It was suggested by a QB tech support that I wipe the file and transfer again.   After wiping it won't let me import the desktop file because I had already made an E-pay on that company file. I have been trying to get back in touch with QB and filed a request with Data Systems but they have not been too quick to help.

Anyone have any advice or ideas?

this is the response I get. There needs to be a way to work around this. I have deactivated payroll services on both desktop and online but that didn't help. I am desperate for someone to help me.

Welcome back, Trueburton.

Let's make sure to review the process of starting your company form scratch. Refer to the detailed steps in this help article: Delete your data and start over in QuickBooks Online.

If successful, you should be able to migrate your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) file to QuickBooks Online (QBO). Before dong so, you'll want to check out this article to learn more about what can and cannot be imported when switching from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online: What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Here's an article on how to convert files from QBDT to QBO. You can have this article handy for your reference: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

If you're still having trouble migrating the files, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Care. They can handle this in a secure environment and help you import files successfully.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the upper right.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter your concern.
  4. Click Let’s talk.
  5. Choose Get a callback
  6. Type in your contact info.
  7. Select Confirm my call.

You might also want to visit our QuickBooks Online learning guides for tutorials and webinars about the product.

The Community is always open if you have other questions. I'll be around to help. Wishing you a great day ahead!.

I did all of these steps already. I'm not sure if it actually purged everything though.  My tags are still there and my employee information is still intact.  Does this mean something didn't fully work or is this normal to still have these items remain?

The biggest issue is the error message I mentioned earlier that is preventing me from reinstalling my files.

Hi Trueburton,

Thanks for the update. Let me continue to help.

The purge will also remove payroll data. In fact, part of the reminder in the article says you will need to re-enter the employee and payroll information.

You can purge up your QBO company again or export a blank company file from QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know how the steps work for you. We're just right here if you need further assistance. Take care!

I've purged it multiple times. I've done it incognito as well. There is still some information in the file. And it won't let me export the file because of the error message I mentioned earlier.

Still need help with this.
