We’re Listening and Making Improvements to Modern View Reporting

The upgrade to the QuickBooks reporting experience is well underway with most standard reports now opening in Modern View by default. Importantly, thanks to your feedback, we continue to improve the reporting experience.Β

You’ve shared feedback with us on a range of issues such as modern reports being unintuitive, with challenges such as:

  • Difficulty finding key reports quickly
  • Challenges with repetitive scheduling and sharing workflows
  • Limited insight from drill downs
  • Lost customisations during navigation

You’ve told us that these issues slow your workflows down and make analysis more confusing than it should be. With this in mind, here are some of the recent improvements we’ve made.

Some recent improvements:

  • Auto refresh of reports: Reports now automatically update after any transaction changesβ€”no manual refresh needed. So you’ll see the latest data straight away without any extra steps.
  • Persisting customisation: QuickBooks now remembers your report customisations. Adjust dates, filters, and even layoutsβ€”then drill down into transactions and navigate back. You’ll see the same customised view - no more lost settings or rework, making analysis faster and easier.
  • Drilldown into $0 accounts with transactions: You can now drill into $0 accounts that contain transactions, giving full visibility into your financials and eliminating blind spots in reporting.
  • Favouriting modern reports: You can now β€œfavourite” key reports, which automatically appear at the top of the reporting page for quick access.
  • Multi-currency support on modern reports: Modern reports now support multiple currencies, enabling accurate tracking, reporting, and management of unrealized gains and losses across international transactions. Available for the Profit & Loss, balance sheet, AR/AP aging summary reports and more.
  • Custom group scheduling: You can now schedule and share entire groups of custom reports at once, saving time and ensuring consistent sharing. Supports multiple formatsβ€”PDF, XLSX, and CSV.Β
  • Drilldown in A/P & A/R summary reports: You can now drill directly into ageing totals in A/P and A/R summary reports, making it easier to review overdue payments and receivables.Β
  • Removal of the β€˜Save Report’ prompt: We’ve removed the pop-up asking customers to save report changes, reducing interruptions and speeding up workflows.
  • Memo/description columns: The capability to add memo/description columns has been implemented in Modern View.

Improvements expected soon:

  • A fresh, simplified reporting experience: We’re redesigning the reporting interface to bring you the best of both worldsβ€”the familiarity of the classic view combined with the power of modern capabilities. The most-used features will be right at your fingertips, so you can get things done with fewer clicks.
  • Effortless scrolling: Soon, you’ll be able to scroll through your financial reports directly at the page level. No need to hover over the tableβ€”simply scroll anywhere on the report to view it from top to bottom with ease.
  • Column widths: When you customise column widths these will now persist in modern reports.
  • Account ordering: The account order shown in classic view will soon show in modern reports. For example the General Ledger reports the ordering from Assets β†’ Liabilities β†’ Equity β†’ Income β†’ Expenses will be shown.
  • Displaying zero balance accounts: Zero balance accounts will not be displayed when printing out reports.

Previous improvements:

  • The account number will now display in your reports
  • Your chosen accounting method (cash vs accrual) will now display when you open a standard report.Β
  • The Profit and Loss title header is now centred
  • The report PDFs have a clean, easy to read layout
  • The accounting method is now shown in the report footer
  • Non multi-currency reports now show currency only on totals and groups
  • Your Classic View preference is now saved for 30 days

Saving your Classic View preference for 30 days

We appreciate change can be hard, especially when you’re super busy. Our data tells us some users are switching certain reports back to Classic view and we get it. In fact, if you prefer using Classic View for certain reports we’re now going to save your preference for 30 days to save you continually switching back. However, the Classic View option will eventually be removed, so the sooner you get familiar with Modern View, the easier it will be when Classic View is no longer available.

What’s next?

We will continue to update you on what’s happening and what’s coming next throughout the migration. It’s important to know in the near future Modern View will become the only view available and we expect to start sunsetting Classic View with non-financial reports first, followed by financial reports. We’ll keep you across any changes.
