We've been a QBDT user for many years.
When MTD forced our hand several years ago we opened a QBO account and use it for our payroll needs.
We couldn't get on with the rest of it and continue with QBDT to this day including filing VAT.
Yes, we've paid two monthly subscription for the benefit for several years!
Now QBDT is to be shelved we are forced to move!
Having used the Movemybooks link provided and uploaded the file to that system, it now needs a clear QBO account to download the data to!
Problem is that our QBO account has data added by us 2019-2020 while "playing".
We cannot simply delete the account due to using "payroll" every week.
We did consider opening a new account prefixed with a 1 or 2 in the company name but is there another way that anybody can advise.
many thanks, Rob

If you don't mind managing 2 separate QBO accounts, that would be the cheapest option. Otherwise, you will have to purchase another third party service to manually convert data from QB Desktop to your existing QBO account.
I can share some information about moving from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO), @CRT.
Yes, Fiat Lux - ASIA is right. You may have another QBO account or find a third-party app that works well with QBO, that'll help you with converting your data to your existing account.
You can check for our plans and pricing through this link: Intuit QuickBooks. See this article for more information on how to sign up for a new subscription and set up your company file: Get started with QuickBooks Online.
Once done, you can now move your QBDT company file to QBO using Movemybooks: Moving from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
In case you're having trouble moving your company file, here's how you can resolve issues when importing from QuickBooks Desktop for Windows to QuickBooks Online.

UPDATE with a question
Well we managed it after a lot of head scratching!
Opened a new QBO Simple Start account the same as we currently use as its adequate for our needs plus Payroll, only to find that QBO Essentials is the minimum requirement for MoveMyBooks to be able to migrate the data. OK, upgrade package!
Was about to delete the account and start again when we clocked the "upgrade" package link.
We then added company name etc but activated CIS as we use it and caused all sorts of issues.
Be very careful to ONLY add company name AND check that the list of VAT codes you need (currently use) are active, else you will get constant RED flags that there is an issue with VAT.
Maybe we're a bit thick but it took a while to realise exactly what it was trying to tell us. EG if you need 12% or 5% along with standard 20% VAT go into EDIT VAT RATES and make them active.
Once this was done, MoveMyBooks confirmed its good to go.
Migration was pretty straight forward but threw up some "differences" that called for resolution.
These consisted of entries that really were irrelevant along with VAT return "issues".
Trying to connect to HMRC was impossible ( it obviously managed it once due to a blue tick appearing alongside one return) but would not connect again over many attempts and a couple of days.
Finally we turned OFF MTD and lied that we had confirmed such with HMRC, this miraculously then allowed us to confirm the previous returns had been FILED and put the issue to bed.
Turned MTD back on and it connected straight away confirming nothing to file with HMRC as all was up to date. Hooooray!
Question!
Now the account is active and migration is complete, we've even dared to enter data lol, is there any reason why we cannot downgrade the package to Simple Start?
Thanks Rob.
Welcome back, @CRT. I'm glad to hear that you're now settled with activating your account and migrating your data. I'm stepping in today to share the possible reasons why downgrading your current package to Simple Start is unavailable.
There are features available in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Essentials that aren't offered in QBO Simple Start. In this case, you need to disable some features in your current plan to downgrade. These include the following:
I'm adding this helpful article for more hints on how to turn off these features from our system: Upgrade or downgrade your QuickBooks Online subscription.
However, if you had a multi-currency feature enabled, you won't be able to downgrade to Simple Start since this plan doesn't support this feature. If you need to, you may cancel your current plan, then purchase a new subscription for a simple start version.
