How do I change the start date of a bank reconciliation?

Our bank account has never been reconciled in Quickbooks, dating back to 2021.  How do I change the start date of the bank reconciliation to 01/05/2024 the start of our financial year as I don't want to go back any further?

How do I change the start date of a bank reconciliation?

You can reconcile your account from January 05, 2024. It's how you can get this as your start date of bank reconciliation. Allow me to provide more details on how it works, liza.

The system defaults to the date of the last completed reconciliation as the beginning point. This means if you haven't reconciled for a year and wish to start fresh from a particular date, you would first need to ensure that all transactions up to that point are accurately entered and categorized in QBO.

Once done, reconcile your bank account from the new date (January 5, 2024). Follow the reconciliation process to match transactions from QBO against your bank statement. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and choose Reconcile.
  2. Choose the account you want to reconcile. Make sure it matches the account on your statement.
  3. Verify the Beginning balance to ensure it matches the beginning balance on your statement in QuickBooks.
  4. Enter the Ending balance and Ending date as indicated on your statement. If the account has been reconciled before, check the last statement ending date below the Ending date field to reconcile the following month's statement. If available, review the Last statement's ending date which signifies the end date of your last reconciliation. Your current bank statement should begin the day after this date.
  5. Hit Start reconciling.
