I received a "Notice of penalty assessment" from HMRC for late FPS submissions. RTI data is late.

We pay employees around 20th of each month and have enabled RTI. The employee's payment date is always set to the end of the month, so they are always paid "early". However the RTI FPS data seems to send data from the previous month each time. So HMRC are always getting last month's data each time.

We need to send "this month's" data. How can we fix this?

We are being fined for late submissions.

I don't want this to happen to you again, @Anthony60. Thus, you'll no longer be able to receive a penalty because I know how important money is in the operation of a business.

Thanks for the informative information. I'll make sure that the RTI will send the tax reporting immediately moving forward.

With this, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. Our experts can dig deeper into your QuickBooks settings to know what causes the RTI to send late.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu, then click Contact Us
  2. Type your concern in the box and tap Let's talk
  3. Choose either Get a call or Start a chat
  4. Complete the required data and submit the request.

Make sure to contact them within business hours to ensure a swift response.

I received a "Notice of penalty assessment" from HMRC for late FPS submissions. RTI data is late.

It turns out that our HR staff misunderstood when to send the RTI data. So there was no software problem. The RTI data must be sent on or before the payment date on the payslips. Our HR staff were sending the RTI data around 7 days after the end of the previously month when they were submitting tax and NI payments.

Thank you for your kind help and advice.

Hi Anthony60, this may mean that the pay periods are set up incorrectly - can we confirm the pay period (start and end date) and payment date as this appears on the most recent payslip? :)

Thanks for the helpful suggestion. When I check a payslip for November 2021, it shows:

Period starting: 1/11/2021

Period ending: 30/11/2021

Date paid: 30/11/2021

However the payslip was generated on 19/11/2021 and staff were paid on that day too. However the RTI data logs indicate that FullPaymentSubmissionRequest data was not sent until 06/12/2021. This RTI contained data with: "PmtDate": "2021-11-30".

It seems that QBO is not sending the RTI FPS immediately when the Pay Run is executed.

It eventually sends the RTI, but it is too late and we receive a penalty from HMRC. I hope that someone can help us to fix this.

Best regards
