When my client set up his bank feed from his bank, he had to import it because his bank did not have the feature. He or the bank set it up as an Asset Account. I tried to change it over but it will not allow me to change it. Do I need to call support or does he need to set up a new QBO Account?
Hi Chriskinguh,
Welcome to the UK Community Page, this is a great place to get expert advice on your QBO Queries.
You should be able to change the type of account within QuickBooks, go into Accounting on the left, select the account, click the black arrow and then Edit. You should be able change the account type in that screen.
What type of Asset has he set it up as, what's the Detail Type and what's he named the account? I'm wanting to replicate your scenario.
Thanks,
I tried to do that and it would not allow me to change the account.
He had "Other Current Assets" and the name Bank.
Hi Chriskinguh,
Is it giving you any kind of error message? Let me know the details of the account (Detail type & Name, Current Asset/Tangible/LongTerm?) and i'll try to replicate it, or a screenshot would be even better! :)
Thanks,
HI Chriskinguh,
I've got your information thank you, I've just replicated it and on mine i can definitely change that account, even with transaction against it's register.
Few things i can think of, does he have a list of transactions under "For Review" on the banking screen for this bank?
Has he reconciled this account?
Try Clearing Cache & Cookies on your browser, This could just be a local, temporary or browser based issue, are you using Google Chrome to access your QBO?

When you try to click save, what actually happens? Any error message? Non responsive save button?
Client didn't screen shot the message, he just moved on.
He does have items in the "for review" on the banking screen. He has not reconciled account yet, because he was setting up his QBO and this was his first import.
No Problem Chris,
Try excluding all the items out of the banking screen, are you still getting the same message after Clearing Cache & Cookies? I've just uploaded a .csv and even with transactions in my For Review i can change that account type.
What happens when you try to change the type? Is the Save & Close button greyed out?
Do you or your client get an Error Message Chriskinguh referencing the use of a Deposit, Cheque or Payment preventing the change?
Thanks,
Yes, it is greyed out.
Yes when trying accept deposits.
Hi Chriskinguh,
Then in that case, you may find it quicker to create a new Bank Account, click into the account currently called Bank and move the transactions from Bank to the new account, you can then make inactive the old account.
You'll have transactions, particular kinds which post in such a way they cannot have the parent account's detail type change from Current Asset to Bank, namely any transactions involving Undeposited Funds or a Cash Account.
Best to create new, transfer what you need over from the old to the new then delete the old in this scenario.
Thanks,
I passed this information on to the client. I will keep you posted .
Thank you.
