American Express Banking Feed - Silencing

Is there any particular reason why the commenting section of a post by 'matthewh' on 01/04/20 has been disabled? A more cynical person than myself might assume that QB was not keen on the public outcry at the inability of QB to restore the Amex Banking feed.

For me personally, this functionality has been down since 30/03/20 which is completely unacceptable. One would hope that at the very least QB would offer some financial reprieve for the reduction in service as well as the inconvenience of having to manually upload transactions.

Yes I still had that message too, I saw on another thread on here that it is now active.

You can go into the chart of accounts, go to edit the account then click the tick box Disconnect on save.  Then you start a new connection. I am no expert but it worked for me.

Hello JR90,

Welcome to the Community page,

Currently, Amex bank is not on open banking still and our engineers are working with Amex to get them onto it. We have no ETA of when it will be out.

You can still upload your transactions into your account by doing a CSV upload so you can continue to do your books until there is an available connection for it

Thank you for your reply however it does not actually answer my fundamental questions.

Additionally, there are other threads in the forum where your colleagues offer entirely different answers.

This is unacceptable.

We pay for a service. This service is not being provided. That is clear.

To say that we can "manually import the transactions" is NOT providing the service as advertised. In addition when you DO import manually - once the feed is up and running again - there then begins the task of having to go through the ENTIRE transaction list - and excluding all the duplicates - this is not QUICKbooks - this is TEDIOUS&INEFFICIENTbooks.

Other accounting software have managed to sort this open banking problem out - yet QB are still dragging their feet.

It's actually possible to sign in with the US side of AMEX - the transactions are imported (with the numbers being correct) but the currency is in USD - so it doesn't work. So there IS functionality where AMEX talks to QB - but clearly this is not being seen as a priority.

This has been an issue since April - it has been resolved with other accounting software since July - we are now in October.

Whether knowingly or not - you are treating your paying customers with contempt.

Maybe stop paying for the Livestreams on Social Media that almost nobody watches - and instead allocate the cash and the resources to paying somebody to get this resolved...?

Get. It. Fixed.

Hello Gareth, we do want to reassure you we take your feedback seriously. The software works with an import from a CSV and when the connection is available again it is a case of stipulating a date range of when you want transactions to pull through from or have them pull through from the new connection day only to prevent any duplicates or exclusions. We will be updating this link as soon as we have an exact date but can confirm there will be a new connection which we will announce on the link.

I'm with everyone else posting on this feed and the other feed. This is absolutely ridiculous Quickbooks. Why am I paying you a subscription service when I'm having to waste so much time doing everything manually.

Your responses are shameful and just mirror my own personal experience of your customer service team. Your company smacks of one that takes its customers for granted and quite frankly couldn't give a stuff.

Well after waiting 9 months for you to sort this issue out I've finally had enough. I will be posting my VAT this week and then migrating off your platform. I do not want to give you one more penny of my hard earned money, because you simply don't deserve it.

Don't bother responding to this email as your responses are repetitive, annoying and completely meaningless.

I hadn't realised the comments had been turned off for the last thread until I went to post on it this morning.  Anyway.......Anyone else get this email today...

"Over the past few months, we’ve been working hard to upgrade your bank connection to Open Banking

Unfortunately, because of technical challenges between Open Banking standards and those of American Express, we’ve not yet been able to automate this connection.

Our teams continue to work together to get you connected but this may not be until the end of 2021. We’ll let you know as soon as possible when you can access your American Express bank transactions in QuickBooks.

What does this mean for you?

Until we can set up your automated bank connection, you will need to manually import your American Express transactions into QuickBooks.

We have connections to over 40 banks.  Check to see if any of your other banks are available."

Yes, I received the same thing a few days ago. It's extremely disappointing. What I fail to understand is why other companies doing the same thing do not seem to have the same issue.

Just adding my thoughts to this thread (amongst most other threads in the forum!) - QuickBooks - we need some answers on this?

PLEASE do NOT give us any 'copy and text' answer and say that 'it's being worked on' and it's 'unfortunate' - unfortunate is something that happens and is fixed quickly - 10 months and we are still waiting for this functionality.

Everyone is asking the same question - please can you provide us with when this will be updated - I will only accept an exact time frame - as well as what and where the issues lie - because frankly I am fed up of waiting for this to be 'fixed'.

Hello, Jago Davies.

I appreciate you for sharing your thoughts about the open banking feature for American Express in QuickBooks Onlne (QBO).

As of this writing, the Amerian Express bank is still not on open banking. Our team of engineers is working with the bank to consider this as part of the updates.

While we have no exact time as to when will this be available, you can import your bank transactions using Excel CSV files. This way, you can download your transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Here's an article that shares information on whether your bank is eligible for open banking. The list can be updated once connections are available: Understanding if you can upgrade your bank feeds to Open Banking.

I'm also sharing this article to learn more about Open Banking in QuickBooks Online (QBO); Open Banking FAQ.

Leave a comment below if you have any other issues or concerns. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you. Have a great day!

That the final straw for me. This has been going on for ages. Enough is enough. I’m switching away from QuickBooks at the end of this month to Free Agent.

Goodbye QuickBooks. I’d like to say it’s been fun but I’d be lying. Your support sucks

One of my other bank connections was down due to Open Banking last year - maybe for 6-8 weeks in all.

I downloaded the CSV files and imported the transactions.

When the connection became live again - ALL of the transactions downloaded - and I had to go through all of the months again - deleting all the duplicates - and making a total MESS of my otherwise very clean, very orderly books.

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

I'm also leaving QB at the end of the tax year. Your competitors have sorted this out - AmEx clearly IS part of Open Banking - you guys just haven't got your act together and are treating your customers with contempt.

So after specifically asking not to have a copy and paste answer - you post a copy and paste answer! I shall be moving my account away from you very shortly as this is clearly unacceptable - you are putting the blame at the feet of AmEx when it is clearly your systems that are not set up for this.

I'm really disappointed - I used QB as I thought there was good support available and would work for me - which clearly is not the case.

Hello Jago, We're sorry to hear this. We at the moment can only say we do not have the connection and we will be bringing the connection in but I can not give exact dates as testing comes before rolling out to all users. I take on board the comments about copy and paste answers and take on board what you are saying. We at [present have only a small amount of information and do not want to mislead any users in the Community about when this change will happen.

Xero continually looks like the way forward at this moment in time. Quickbooks (QB) simply do not have enough incentive to get this AMEX issue addressed in a timely manner. If its a a price hike they are on the ball.

QB, like Sage, are stuck in the 20th century. Newer competitors are hungry for business and make things happen.

Emma M you obviously took time with your response, proof reading it before sending it (hence the We at [present ). I hope this does not reflect QB's attitude to development.

Intuit you really need to have a big chat with yourselves. You spend money on marketing but it's the product that needs funding.

We are your loyal customers and without us you are out of business.

Folks - I strongly recommend you use FreeAgent. I've used both Quickbooks and Xero now and neither of them are as good as FreeAgent IMHO. The UI is so logical and makes you realise how over complicated Xero and Quickbooks are. They are a British company and their support is out of this world. I've literally gone on to their chat 6 or 7 times now and its always answered immediately, by someones who's first language is clearly English and they literally cannot do enough to help you. Quickbooks on the other hand take days to come back to you and when they do they haven't even read the question. I can't comment on Xero support but I know that it's not on par with FreeAgent. Either way, my recommendation is move away from QuickBooks as they don't deserve your business.

FreeAgent looks great but on their website they don't appear to offer AMEX Open Banking support ( https://support.freeagent.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115001222744-Which-bank-feeds-does-FreeAgent-support... ) which is what we need. From a support perspective / customer service perspective 100%.

It would be good to know if FreeAgent does support Amex. I have been looking at Sage which does support it but anything seems to be better than the support we currently have.

Why are you STRONGLY recommending FreeAgent when it doesn't support AMEX Credit Card banking?

Just wasted my time signing up only to find that I'm in exactly the same position as with QuickBooks, so thanks.

I recommend FreeAgent as after some 5 years of using Quickbooks I found this product to be way superior. Also the help service is fantastic, as the chat support answers within less than a second and every time I've used it they have helped me straight away with quick sensible advice with links and in english. With Quickbooks you log a ticket and then wait days for a rubbish answer totally unrelated to the issue you are raising. I've had three or four episodes of this with Quickbook and tried to raise a complaint and never heard back. I agree, I subsequently found out that FreeAgent also has an issue with AMEX but they gave me an insightful and helpful response on how best to work around it which has made it so much easier. I've now got both my companies using FreeAgent and Quickbooks is a distant memory (nightmare). If Amex ever get their act together I am sure that FreeAgent will be the first to react and get it working.

Not sure about FreeAgent but Xero does support AMEX Open Banking ( https://central.xero.com/s/article/American-Express-UK-direct-feeds ).
