HSBC Web Connect Desktop

We are trying to download transactions into Quickbooks UK Desktop from a UK HSBC Business Account.

I have read ALL the instructions available, nothing works.

I have been told by Quickbooks support that UK Desktop no longer supports Direct Connect bank feeds so have to use Web Connect by downloading a statement. Direct connect now only works with Quickbooks online version.

Although the Quickbooks help file says it accepts a .QBO or .OFX web connect file, it will now only let me select a QBO file.

HSBC UK will ONLY let me download transactions as a .OFX file, no QBO is available.

Can I assume Quickbooks desktop can no longer import transactions from one of the biggest  (if not THE biggest) UK bank?

I have tried a few on the 3rd party OFX to QBO converters, nothing works, it fails when it tries to verify with the bank although when I go through the 'set up banking feed' process in Quickbooks it seems to connect OK, then tells me to download the transactions which seems to be impossible.

Has anyone successfully got web connect working with a UK HSBC Business account into Quickbooks UK desktop?

Hi Yahal Bank connections within QBDT are no longer a supported feature. You could batch enter transactions and copy and past the transactions into the fields, you will the spreadsheet to be in a CSV format and separated into income and outgoings.

Hello,

I think you are talking about DIRECT CONNECT not web connect?

Please clarify.

I was told Direct connect is no longer supported but web connect is?

If what you are saying is true, I would not have 'import web connect file' option Quickbooks Premier 2021, which I do. (see pic)

Also, HSBC-UK-Business IS listed as one of the participating financial institutions in the menu.

Yet you say it is not supported.

Please clarify

Hello Yahal, Could you provide a screenshot showing Ofx Not available in the desktop product as a format to upload the file in? Yes, the file upload is the only option in the desktop product no direct connection with any banks is available in the desktop product.

See attached image.

You can click on the file format section, only *.qbo appears.

Until this is fixed so *.OFX can be imported, I have developed this workaround. ( For information only.)

Issue: HSBC UK - Business will only download statements on *.OFX or CSV format. QB-UK-Desktop Premier 2021 will not import *.OFX currently, despite the help file saying otherwise, only *.QBO.

Workaround: The QBO XML type format is almost the same as OFX but with an added INTU.BID field and account type field changed to CHECKING (from DDA supplied by HSBC) plus another minor changes.
It used to be possible to just rename the file from *.ofx to *.qbo, with any working value put into INTU.BID but now there HAS to be a valid and matching INTU.BID entry to ensure its a participating financial institution and any whitespace or typos mean it will not import and will error out.

HSBC is listed as one of the very few UK participating institutions and it probably works fine on the Online version so it HAS to have a valid INTU.BID number.
This can be found in the FIDIR.txt file of your QB installation or you can use this link. (UK only)

https://ofx-prod-filist.intuit.com/qb3000-uk/data/fidir.txt

The solution is to use a 3rd party solution (I used BANK2QBO) to convert the *.ofx to *.qbo and force the software to use 'Bank INTU.BID=10596'  (in the case of HSBC UK Business) and change the currency to £. I also changed the date display format to DD/MM/YY but this is probably not effecting the conversion.

Seems to import fine now but haven't fully tested.

PS. I used to be (and still am sometimes) a programmer, so found it easy to solve but I fear until this is sorted, its an issue that needs fixing.
