Sometimes when writing checks in QB, the "save & close" and the "save & next" buttons are missing from the bottom right corner of the screen. I have to click save at the top and then next. I haven't been able to pinpoint a pattern as sometimes it is there and sometimes not. Any ideas?
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, ShannonH.
No worries, I'm here to help you get this sorted out so you successfully process your payroll and get back to business.
This usually happens when your screen resolution is maximized or due to any browser related issues. Sometimes, you won't notice that your screen is maximized unless you scroll it down to the bottom, and locate the missing buttons or options.
You'll just need to make sure that you're using the standard screen resolution to prevent hiding the options located at the bottom part of your screen. If the issue persists, clearing the browser's cache or using a different browser usually does the trick for resolving any browser related issues that can trigger strange QuickBooks behaviors.
You can refer to this article for the process of clearing the browser's cache: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1145697.
After following these steps, I'm confident that you'll have the option to save and close when writing checks moving forward.

This has been a continuing issue for a lot of QB users. Not sure exactly why this works other than it resets the screen size for windows but do the following:
Shut down quickbooks.
hold down the shift key and reopen quickbooks.
Your check writing screen should be normal again.
I have the same issue in the Payroll screen. Strangely enough, when I first open it, it's fine and I can see all the buttons but after I navigate to other programs in windows (7 pro), it will sometimes expand some areas and push other areas (the buttons) off the viewable portion of the window. Just had it happen today where the top of the window was pushed off too including the "X" to close the window. Thankfully alt-f4 worked in closing it but this needs to be fixed.
Same problem today in client payments. There is no rhyme or reason as to when it happens or why. It's extremely frustrating though.
FYI: My computer is completely up to date, cleared the cache, same issue in the desktop app, dual screens w/ better resolution than required ... when i change the zoom, all i get is the same problem, only with tinier fonts.
@deshmecoI tried your fix, it didn't work.
@AnonymousWhen the page first comes up, there is a slight glimmer of hope as I see the green Save button, but it quickly disappears. It's as if there is a blank banner across the bottom of the page that hides it. I have new invoices to enter and send today, I need to enter payments first.
Hi Guys.
Would I just be able to confirm which internet browser you are all using when you are getting this error message. Generally I would recommend either Google Chrome or Firefox but it might be worth completely clearing the cache and cookies and restarting the browser.
I have the same issue in either Firefox, Chrome AND in the QBO Desktop App.
My computer is secured as well as regularly cleared and scanned as I operate a healthcare business.
There is no pattern to when it happens or clears itself.
Have you tried using an in private browsing window? It could be a deep caching issue with the browser, with regards to the app it still runs using your computers browser as a default itself.
Starting with Shift held down does indeed fix this recurring bug. Thank you.
I see this only on memorized checks. I created a new memorized check and same issue. I've restarted QB. I've rebooted the computer. I've changed resolutions. None of these fixed the issue.
I've noticed some of the posts here have comments and tags that seem to look to me like wording found in our Desktop Product, can anyone who is still experiencing this confirm if they are using our Online or our Desktop Product.
@briankwik are you using Desktop?
Hi @mpcfc,
Do you see any improvements when attempting to do this through an incognito window in Chrome? (Ctrl + Shift + N)
Thanks,
I am trying to apply payments and create invoices today. I've used Firefox and Chrome with and without incognito and the save button disappears after showing up for a quick second.
Hi guys.
I can certainly see why this would be a concern, especially when it makes using things almost impossible. It appears to be an issue with the Operating system itself. Leave it with me and I will investigate this further to see if I can get a workaround for this.
It looks like we have users on Desktop Pro and the online version both experiencing this problem. I use Desktop Pro 2018. As I noted earlier, the QB restart with the Shift key held down fixes the problem on Desktop Pro. While the error was occurring, I had a work around that helped: Hit the Save button at the top, then X to close the window.
I also have this issue with the Write Checks in Desktop Accountant 2018. The screen is too large to see the bottom buttons and it won't drag and resize as the other screens will. If I click on the button to Maximize the work area, I can see the bottom buttons. So far, this is the only screen that I cannot drag and resize within the program. I've tried all recommended fixes and nothing has worked. I do have a large monitor and running High DPI; however, all of the other screens within QB will resize by dragging the corners.
Hi guys.
Would I just be able to confirm if any of you are using 4K display monitors to run your QuickBooks?
I'm using a basic monitor with 1920x1080. Did some resolution testing with the app running and it survived all changes and is still working correctly now that I'm done. While I mostly run maximized, I've tried running in a window to see if I could scroll down to see the buttons. IMO, I think the buttons are just not there. It's not like they are off the screen. They are missing. On other windows, besides check writing, save and close buttons are still present. For me, this wasn't a global bug, it's a localized bug to the check writing screen only. (Now, I'm not a power user, so I don't visit many different screens typically: Vendors, Customers, Bills, Registers).
I can see the buttons if I maximize the write checks screen to a full screen type of mode where I can't see menu bar. I generally work on smaller/multiple screens with the menu bar at the top or the side. The write checks screen does not all me to scroll down at all on the side to see the buttons. Nor can I resize the screen like I can other screen. I think it's a specific issue to the Write Checks screen where it's not re-sizable by dragging the corners as you can with all the other screens. It would fix the problem if I could resize.
I use 2 monitors - both are same - Samsung 32" WQHD LED Monitor S32D850T
Hi cd34102,
Thank you for contacting the Community.
Can I ask if you are using the UK or US version of QuickBooks?
Thanks, Carly. :)
US Version.
I'll direct one of my US Colleagues to your query.
Thanks,

I'm happy to help figure out why you're unable to resize the Write Check screen.
We'll need to configure the QuickBooks DPI settings to fix the issue. You can follow the outlined steps in the article below (scroll-down to Solution 1:(
