Classes and Standard Payroll

HI,

Is it possible to specify a Class for journal entries in Standard Payroll? If even a single Class could be set for all Payroll journal entries, eg 'General', this would be very helpful. Untagged payroll entries end up being reported as 'Not Specified' in a P&L by Class report, which is very unhelpful. For all other transactions there is a prompt to fill the Class field. If it is not possible to set the Class field for Payroll transactions, then this is inconsistent.

If, as I suspect, the feature does not exist, could QB please add it asap.

Thanks,

Andy

Classes and Standard Payroll

I know how important it is to classify payroll journal entries to a class, @andy-mcwilliam.

Currently, the ability to add class on payroll transactions is unavailable. I understand this will save time rather than adding a class by hand for each payroll journal entry. I want your experience to be heard. In your case, I recommend submitting feedback to our product developers so they will know that this is crucial to your business. They might include this feature in future updates.

Simply click the Gear icon on the top right and select Feedback to enter your product suggestion. Once done, click the Next button to submit.

You can also submit your suggestion through this link: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.

In addition, you can also run a specific report to review your payroll data: View reports in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll.

Classes and Standard Payroll

Hi there, @andy-mcwilliam.

Bare with me. I'll teach you how to enable this feature in QuickBooks Online.

We can specify the classes for tracking revenue, expenses, or profitability by product line. This is possible in QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced.

Let's turn on the class tracking feature by navigating to the Gear icon.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, and choose Account and Settings.
  2. On the left pane, click the Advanced tab.
  3. Look for Categories and hit the Pencil icon.
  4. Under the Track Classes tick the On button to enable this option.
  5. Choose whether you want to assign classes One to each row in the transaction or One to the whole transaction
  6. Lastly, Save and Done.

Once done, you can now create a Journal Entry with assign classes.

Classes and Standard Payroll

Hi Christine,

Unfortunately your reply misses the point of my question. I already have the Class feature turned on and have been using it for ages. My issue is that, even with Classes turned on, Standard Payroll appears to have no capability of tagging the journal entries it automatically creates with a Class. Sure, you can go back into those journal entries and fill the Class field manually. But that's an awful lot of journals, and a lot of work. There should be a way of telling Payroll what Class to attach automatically.
