Contractor withholdings

I have a contractor in which I am obligated by Friend of the Court to withhold for child support.   How do I do this in quickbooks?

Contractor withholdings

Hello there, babruinekool. I'm glad to have you in the Community.

On the contractor side, we can create a separate liability account to withhold for child support. Though the best thing that I can suggest here is to consult your accountant for further assistance. They are the ones who can guide us through inputting this into QuickBooks in the right process.

We can follow the steps below in creating an account for this. Here's how:

  1. Go Accounting and select the Chart of Accounts tab.
  2. Click the New button at the upper-right corner.
  3. Select the liability account as a definition in the Account Type.
  4. Enter the name of the account.
  5. Then, Save and Close.

If you need anything else, let me know by adding a new post below. I'm always here to respond to you as soon as possible. I hope you're good. Thanks!

ok, thank you.  So then on the vendor check, line one woutd be the amount earned & full amount paid.  Line two would then be the liability & garnishment...so would that be a negative amount shown?  Thank you!

Good day, babruinekool.

When you write a cheque to pay the garnishment, you list the Child Support Liability account. With regard to the amount earned, I'd recommend reaching out to your accountant regarding the process. This is to make sure that your financial reports are accurate at the end of the year.

Please leave a comment if you have any additional questions. Thanks.
