FPS keeps failing

I have been using QuickBooks for a while and have never had any issues with payroll, FPS, or EPS submissions.
Suddenly, FPS keeps failing and gives me 3 messages:

Your electronic filing was rejected by HMRC. Please go to payroll settings and make sure your HMRC credentials are set correctly.
The filing period for this form isn't over yet. If you still need to run your final payroll for this tax period, then this form may have incomplete information.
You have already filed this form electronically for the selected period. If you have changed any information since you originally filed, you may need to file an amendment manually.

This is my first FPS this tax year, and I have not previously submitted it.
I have also triple-checked the HMRC credentials (even updated the password) and disconnected and reconnected MTD. There are no changes in employees or anything else I can think of causing the issue.

Please advise. I really don't wish to have a late submission.
Thank you

I'm in the same boat. A weekly payroll that I've processed for the last two of this tax year have gone through without a hitch. Yesterday I process the week 3 and the FPS submission fails with reason "it cannot resolve the name" when you look in the archive for the FPS filing

Tried deleting the payroll and reentering but still the same fault. Quickbooks tech had no joy either and ended up escalating the problem. One thing that was odd is that the submission deadline date would keep changing between the 25 April 2025 which is correct for the weekly payroll and 19 May 2025 as if it was a monthly submission.

I expect there has been a mid week update to Quickbooks that has cocked things up. Not great and going to the a real ball ache when I have many monthly payroll runs in a few days if they still haven't resolved the issue.

The core payroll has become a joke and not fit for purpose, Quickbooks need to get this sorted and provide a professional product.

CraigWard  I just tried to submit it again without making any changes and it just went through and was accepted. It wasn't me or any settings - just Quickbooks playing around. Wasted so much time yesterday trying to sort it out #frustraited

A weekly and monthly FPS now submitted to HMRC as it should be. Annoying waste if our time for what is clearly a Quickbooks problem. Cheers for the heads up.

Having exactly the same problem. Payroll for the past 2 years has been working fine and we have made no changes to employee details apart from updating wages on 1st April. Contacted customer support, spend ages on the phone and was told to try again next day. Tried again next day and  failed again. Error message we are getting is

"Validation failed for HMRC RTI payload: src-resolve: Cannot resolve the name 'dsig:Signature' to a(n) 'element declaration' component."

Tried again today and that has also failed. Will try once more on Monday and contact support again.

That is a completely unhelpful stock reply.  The QBO agents know that there is a technical issue here.  I have been promised twice to be put onto an email list to get updates as to when this is going to be resolved, and that's simply not happening.  When I asked teh QBO agent what QBO is going to do about late filing penalties I was told that he doesn't have an answer to that.

I am having the same error message too, since the 25th! First submission for the year. First error came back as check your credentials, triple checked, all OK so tried again. Then it was something about the company address, checked yep all fine. Submitted again, now it keeps saying something about a (n) signature. Over 11 attempts. Hoping it is resolved quickly as it is quite embarassing!

I am having the same issue.

Submission keeps failing telling me to check HMRC credentials - which have not been changed for the past 3 years!!

6 client's submission failed plus our own.

Has anyone heard any update from QuickBooks?

After 1 year of complete mess with the payroll software "upgrade" I am now on the edge to change payroll provider for good. This is a joke.

Is there a way to submit this manually without using Quickbooks to avoid the penalties, or at least let HMRC know that it is a software provider error?

Hi Steve and Gemma. Allow me to suggest an alternative way to submit your FPS, and route you to our live expert support for further assistance.

This error needs to be reviewed closely. As my previous colleague mentioned, please consider reaching out to our live expert to help you with the error you've encountered while submitting the FPS. Our live expert can examine the issue more closely and add you to the list of users who will receive notifications for any updates.

On the other hand, as an alternative solution for submitting your FPS, you can use the HMRC Basic Tools software. Just a heads-up that this tool is designed for businesses with fewer than 10 employees only. For more details, please visit the HMRC Basic Tools software website.

Can you submit the FPS created by Quickbooks in Basic Tools or do you need to recreate the payrolls including previous periods? If the latter that's a work for a Quickbooks cockup sop how would you be compensation us?

Another one here with the exact same problem, there is nothing wrong with my settings, they have worked fine for over three years.

Also for anybody trying to reply to this thread who keeps being directed to the US site; use an incognito tab. It seems the QB website is as much of a mess as their software.

My FPS's are going through just now even though they didn't yesterday or this morning. I had this previously with them not going through on Friday or Saturday but then started going through later on Saturday afternoon.

I'm having to respond through a private browser too. Just another sad joke to go with the rest of Quickbooks

There appears to have been a fix which on my first attempt didn't work. I cancelled the payroll run, refreshed my screen and created it again and all seems to have gone through and FPS was accepted.

Well done to Quickbooks for fixing something that they broke during one of their regular updates when they try to fix something that is not broken. I know that changes were required because of the time of year, but no excuse for this mess.

I’m having the same problem. It’s been fine for years. Ever since April it doesn’t work and now I’m being threatened with penalties but my hands are tied.
