I'm setting up Payroll for the first time and I've selected these values:
How often do you pay your employees? *
Every Month
What is their first pay date in Quickbooks? *
29/04/2020
This prompts a note:
This is in tax month 1 for 2020-21
Your employees will be paid on the 29th of every month beginning 29th April
What are the days they're being paid for?
1 to 30 April
I then get an error:
Input value does not fit in the allowed range
What am I doing wrong? See screenshot.
By the way, I'm a designer, not an accountant!
Thanks!
Let me provide you a quick overview, @cubelab.
It will become available at the end of the month after the end of the Tax year. Then, it's possible for you to set up your payroll.
I'll add this article as your reference to stay current with payroll tax:

Can't pay prior to the end of the pay period.
You selected paychecks to be created as of 29th of month yet want 30th, 31st included in pay. Chaneg one or the other, either pay on 30th or change pay period to be something like 24th or March through 23rd of April
Do I set this up in Employees > Payroll or from the employee (just me) section itself?
See screenshot attached.
I still get the error but I can't set a start date, QB sets that for me, I don't get an option.
I've set start employment date as 30/3/2020 (I'm already employed here but moving fro another system and didn't have payroll set up so can't import details).
What is their first pay date in Quickbooks? - assume this is a month after 'starting' on 30.3.2020, so 30.4.2020 entered
What are the days they're being paid for? - this defaults to 1 to 30 April
So I choose 'something else' and the only option I have is Select the last day of their first pay period *
There is no start option (see screenshot)
So I enter 27 March to have plenty of time, the message says:
This means that your employees will be paid for the days worked between 29 March to 27 April - where does the 29 March come from? (see screenshot)
I hit Save and get the error
Input value does not fit in the allowed range (see screenshot)
Thanks in advance!
Hello cubelab,
The new Tax year has not been released, You wont be able to set that payroll up just yet. This will become available towards the end of the month. Try again a bit closer to the end of the month. Thanks
Ah, ok. Will try at another time. Thanks
Lovely, Let us know how you get on :D
