How do I see Employer NI when drafting payroll - QB tells me it's not meant to alert me when amount owing

We have adjusted an employee (director) payroll which resulted in employer NI.

Previously Quickbooks would notify us on taxes due.

This time it did not, we only realised when we checked the payroll hmrc account and could see money owing and checked with HMRC where we had missed payments.

 

Today running payroll again we cannot see where we can check the employer NI without downloading each payslip (it doesn't show on the payslip draft window or on taxes/deductions summary.)

I have asked what has changed because it definitely informed us before and am being told it doesn't work that way.

How do I check employer NI amounts when drafting payroll?

How do I make sure quickbooks informs me when those payments are due (like it did before)?

In order for us to help you more with your Question, can we ask which payroll it is you are using in your QuickBooks account, is it our standard payroll or is it our Advanced payroll?

Hi dawn49,

 

Could you tell us if you are on Payroll Standard or Advanced?

If you are using Advanced, you can select the relevant Pay run and then "Download Journal". The file that downloads gives a breakdown of all the payments relating to that pay-run.

Thank you for that information, dawn49.

 

You can run the Employment Payment Record (P32) report to check the employer NI amounts. This report shows a breakdown of your monthly payments to HMRC, including all PAYE, student loan, and National Insurance deductions.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Select Reports, and scroll down to the Payroll section.
  3. Choose Employment Payment Record (P32).
  4. Click Run, then select the current year.

 

Also, ensure the tax code notification is turn on to know of any upcoming tax obligations. I'll show you how.

 

Step 1: Check your notification settings.

 

  1. Sign in to the HMRC PAYE dashboard and go to Messages.
  2. Click Notice Preferences and Notice Options.
  3. Set notices to Yes. Any notifications will update in QuickBooks automatically.

 

Step 2: Enter your HMRC reference.

 

  1. Select the Gear icon, then Account and settings.
  2. Click the Payroll tab.
  3. Select the pencil icon next to the HMRC reference.
  4. Enter your HMRC reference and Accounts Office reference.
  5. Once done, hit Save, then Done.
