Hello, @georgerobinson35.
Make sure that MTD is enabled and QuickBooks is authorised to interact with HMRC. Here’s how to verify:
- Go to the Taxes in the left navigation menu.
- Click on Let’s go button at the upper right-hand, then select Continue.
- Sign in by entering your HMRC credentials.
- Select Grant authority to continue.
- Once the authorisation has been given, you will receive a message saying You're connected to HMRC, then click Continue.
- Hit on Take a look.
For the detailed steps, read through this article: Authorise QuickBooks to interact with HMRC - MTD for small businesses.
Right after, you should be able to pay VAT using MTD with QuickBooks. If you continue to get the same result, I suggest checking the following information:
- The date range of the current return, if the end date is in the future then there is no issue.
- The VAT registration number is correct in QBO.
- Gateway ID is correct for the VRN.
If none of these are incorrect, I recommend disconnecting MTD using the Learn how to disconnect button in Account and Settings, then go to the disconnect from HMRC link before reconnecting. Try this multiple times as there are confirmed reports of this working again after 3 or 4 attempts.
That should get you pointed in the right direction.
Let me know how this goes and if you need anything else. Have a good one!
