We have a new starter, with a p45, however it's not clear what information I need to add to the YTD section when adding them as an employee. Do I need to add anything?

Hi, @dan26.

I can certainly help what you need to do with the P45 information from your employee.

The YTD section can be used if you've run previous payroll for this employee. For the P45 information, you can enter this in the Previous Employer (P45) page.

A new employee’s P45 indicates whether you need to deduct student loan payments. If there is no P45, then use the HMRC Starter checklist to help determine if your employee has a student loan and which plan they’re on.

If the employee worked for another employer before you, you will need the total pay to date and total tax to date from their P45. For more details about the payment history information, please refer to this article: Edit employees in QuickBooks Online Payroll (UK).

This should help guide you in the right direction. For other related articles, you can check the following links below.

Keep me posted if you have other questions about P45. I'll be here to help however I can.

Thanks for the brilliant answer! I completely glanced over the 'Previous Employer (P45)' section.
