MTD...inevitably

So it seems this MTD is much more problematic than originally conceived..

I have been informed through QB Online that I was due to submit a VAT Report on the 7th August, like pretty much everyone else. However, having been issued 2 notifications that I needed to submit a first VAT Report for months April to May, I responded to one, which was registered as 'Accepted' by HMRC, but the other (duplicate) demand for a report (for same period) remains open. And there's no indication of how to now submit my VAT Report for 7th August, now past of course. In the meantime, HMRC, all powerful as they are, issued a demand for a calculated VAT sum of over £1000 for the period covered by the first report, which they received, but did not receive. Advice please. Like many others, I'm feeling a little hung out to dry here, uncertain of who is to blame for this shambles and vulnerable to the redations of HMRC who, for whatever reason, are not getting the data they require.

Hi Glenn Brown,

We’ll help you check your submitted return and your VAT data. To do this, I would recommend reaching to our Phone or Chat team. They have a screen-sharing tool, and they can investigate this further.

  1. Click on Help and choose Contact us.
  2. Enter a summary of your concern in the box provided and click Let's talk.
  3. Choose from Get a callback or Chat.

Here, we’re unable to check your account and share your records since this is a public forum.

If you have other VAT concerns, you can always go back to this thread.
