Receiving error on MTD VAT return -- URGENT PROBLEM due to VAT submission deadline!

PLEASE NOTE: we have used MTD to file VAT for some years now, and out VAT number is unchanged for decades.

We are unable to submit VAT return --> URGENT PROBLEM due to VAT submission deadline!
When clicking on the button [File VAT MTD], we get an error window pop up which states:-

"Please check your VAT Registration Number"

this is then followed by e further window which states:-

"Please check the VAT Registration Number and try login again."

As a result we are completely unable to use MTD and cannot submit our VAT return.

This is urgent since we need to submit this return within the deadline.

Does anyone have any ideas ?

We tried using online chat support which was supposed to be available in the UK until 10:00pm (it boasts "We're open Monday-Sunday 8:00am-10:00pm British"), but at 9:43pm it was already closed.

I understand the urgency of submitting your VAT return. Let me help you with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the error you received.

 

First, let's check if your tax ID is correct since that's being pointed out on the error.

 

  1. Go to the Company menu.
  2. Choose My Company.
  3. Click the pencil icon in the COMPANY INFORMATION section.
  4. Go to Company Identification and update your VAT number.
  5. Click OK to exit.

 

If the VAT number is right, you can proceed to updating QuickBooks to download patches and fixes into the program. Most of the time, random errors can be resolved by just updating QuickBooks.

 

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Options tab. Select Mark All and then select Save.
  3. Go to the Update Now tab and select the Reset Update checkbox.
  4. When you're ready, select Get Updates.
  5. Close QuickBooks and restart your PC.

 

If the same thing happens, please contact our QuickBooks Desktop Support again so they can check this further using more tools. I'm not sure what happened the last time you called. There wasn't a communication about changes in the support's availability either, but you can inform them that you couldn't reach them 15 mins before their closing time last time. This way, they can add this incident under your account.
