You can include the product code on purchase order by enabling the Show Item/Service Code column in the Account and settings, Alan.
Here's how:
- Go to the Gear icon, then select Account and settings.

- Click on Sales.
- Toggle on the Show Item/Service Code column in the Products and services section.
- Select Save, then hit Done.

Once you've done this, QuickBooks will automatically add the Item/Service Code column to the purchase order.
To edit the product code of an item, follow these steps:
- Go to Sales, then choose Products & Services.
- Hit Edit for the item you want to modify.
- Update the Item/Service code as needed.
- Click Save and close.
Also, having categories set up will not affect the purchase order.
