Mileage Tracking

Hello,

My mobile Quick Books app doesn't track / sync mileage with online version.

The app has live tracking on, I have went through all suggested settings and permissions to ensure that tracking is always on, but the mileage still doesn't correctly appear on online account.

Occasionally I click "start" on the app (even though all time tracking is enabled) and some of the journeys in the last few days sync, but not all of them.

In the last few days, none appear.

Does anyone have any advice please?

Mileage Tracking

I appreciate you for striving for ways to fix the issue, @otc1.

When you begin tracking mileage with the QuickBooks Online (QBO) mobile app, it should automatically record your business trips. However, this instance didn't. Rest assured, we will address this by configuring the app's unusual behavior.

Let's perform several troubleshooting to check this matter. First, ensure you log in as Master Admin on your QBO account, then review your app by following these reminders to help prevent this from happening.

  1. Check your phone's location settings.
  2. Turn off your hotspot while driving.
  3. Review if the app is tracking miles.
  4. Add the QuickBooks mobile app to your permissions lists.
  5. Update the QuickBooks mobile app.
  6. Update your device to its latest version.
  7. Make sure to check if you made some changes to your device's settings.

Also, third-party antivirus software and applications might disrupt the functionality of the mileage app. To prevent this, we can include the QBO mobile app in your list of permitted applications.

  1. Go to your device's Settings and select Application Manager or APPS.
  2. Locate the QuickBooks mobile app and select Mobile Data.
  3. Turn on the settings Allow app while data server onAllow unrestricted data usage, and Allow background data usage.

Mileage Tracking

Hi Michaela,

Thank you for your reply.

I tried all the steps but the mileage is still not tracking on auto mode.

Again, when I clicked 'start' yesterday, a few trips appeared / synced but not all (including those before clicking 'start').

The same again today, I had to click start for the trips to appear, all of them this time.

The problem seems to be that 'start' triggers some of the data to download. However when app is closed (naturally when closing all apps) it stops and shows 'start' upon accessing it next time. Auto is enabled all the time except when I click 'start' (it disables automatically).

Mileage Tracking

Thanks for getting back to the thread and following the suggestions above, @otc1.

Let me provide you with further help to track your mileage accurately in QuickBooks.

Before we proceed with the steps, update your device to the latest version of Android or iOS to ensure the apps work properly.

To track trips all the time, make sure that the QuickBooks mobile app continues to run in the background. This way, the app will still track your trips even if its screen isn't open or active.

Here are the steps for iOS devices:

  1. Go to your iPhone or iPad's Settings.
  2. Scroll down and click the QuickBooks app.
  3. Select Location and then Always.
  4. Turn on the Motion & FitnessBackground App Refresh, and Cellular Data options.
  5. Close your settings.
  6. If you see a message about background location use, select Always AllowNote: Don’t select the While Using the App, or Only While Using options. These prevent the app from tracking your mileage consistently.

If you use Android devices, follow Google's steps to ensure QuickBooks can run in the background.

In addition, disconnect your hotspot while driving as this can interfere with the trip recording accurately. It’s also advisable to have Wi-Fi on in your location accuracy settings.

I also recommend turning off the Low Power Mode and Do Not Disturb features when tracking miles as this may stop the app from running in the background.

After reaching your destination, you can review your trips. Check the step four section of this article to help you categorise mileage in QuickBooks mobile app: How to record business miles for one or more vehicles.

Should you have further questions about tracking mileage on your device, just let me know. I'm always ready to help. Have a good one.
