For the second time I am having issues with my Paypal connection.
I run the mac desktop version of Quickbooks and Paypal transactions are failing to download. I get the following error when trying to reconnect using my PayPal login details:
Something unexpected happened and we couldn't connect to your bank.
Try signing in again, and check for typos and other errors. If that doesn't work, try signing in on the Paypal (UK) site. (1)
I can successfully log into Paypal's website using the same details, so this is not the issue.
Last time, this was resolved be me logging into Quickbooks via my browser, however this time, that is giving me the same error.
Fed up and really need a resolution on this once and for all - any suggestions please?
Edit: I have tried this on desktop version, through Safari and Google Chrome; all give same error
Hi there, katpritchett.
Thanks for letting us know that this is the second time you’re receiving this error. I can point you in the right direction so you can connect PayPal smoothly.
I checked with my resources and we don’t have reports about the issue. Now, I have some new steps to help you get back on track.
Sometimes your browser stores too much data which can cause unusual behavior in QBO. To check if this is the case, you'll want to use a private or incognito window.
Here’s how:
If you can connect PayPal via these sessions, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache. This process will increase the overall performance of QBO and other websites.
If you continue to get the same result, I recommend contacting our QBO Customer Care Team. They have tools to check your online banking connection in a secure environment.
If there are other users experiencing the problem, they can open a ticket for further investigation. The most up to date contact information can be found here:
That should point you in the right direction.
If you have additional questions or concerns about QBO, please post a comment below. I’m always here to help you.
Hi Kat,
"I checked with my resources and we don’t have reports about the issue"
We reported this issue on the 14th and it was added to the log, so the above statement is at best misleading.
There is a major issue with PayPal integration. It is known.
What i have been told on the Chat support and phone support today, is that if you have or have had a multi-currency account, we will no longer be able to integrate as we have done in the past.
Uploading a CSV is not a suitable option, as it only allows one field for amount (ie not PayPal fees AND gross amount).
You would now also have to spend time sorting out the correct value required for any transactions where you receive or make payment overseas (there is two or three lines for a transaction in or out for payment overseas: 1 for currency exchange (2 if you pay by credit card), 1 for the actual payment)
It was never perfect, but at least it did fees correctly.
I suggest looking elsewhere for a financial solution if PayPal integration is key, as it is for us.
We'll also be looking for compensation for removal of service and time spent replacing.
Yes, I echo the same complaint as above...and it's now November 2019, 7 months since the person above brought it to your attention Paypal.
I'm also running on a Mac (not sure that makes any difference) and I'm unable to connect my Paypal account to my QBO account. I was also told it was due to the multi-currency nature of my PP account. So I removed all other currencies from it, so it only has GBP, but this hasn't fixed the issue at all.
I just get this same repetitive error massage:
Something unexpected happened and we couldn't connect to your bank.
Try signing in again, and check for typos and other errors. If that doesn't work, try signing in on the Paypal (UK) site. (1)
COME ON QUICKBOOKS UK...GET THIS FIXED!!!
Why haven't you done anything yet?

In the meantime, you can import Paypal transactions using a CSV file. Let me show you how:

I appreciate your patience and understanding while we look into this.
Why isnt the "Conenct to Paypal" app for Quickbooks Online not working for UK country? When the hell is Intuit going to recognise that there is life outside of the USA? I am so sick of this every time.
Hi there, @websolprov. I'm here to help ensure you'll be able to connect your PayPal account to QuickBooks Online (QBO).
I can see how the connection issue between PayPal and QBO cost you time and prevented you from getting transactions. I want to ensure this will be resolved as soon as possible. To start, could you tell me if you encounter any error messages when attempting to perform the connecting process? That information is a great help so I can provide a timely solution.
In QBO UK, the option to set up your PayPal account is available. You can refer to these steps to proceed:
For reference, please read this article: Accept Card Payments with PayPal app FAQ.
Once everything is fine, you now need to categorise and match your transactions in QBO to make sure they are allocated to the correct account.

It is now 2023, and the same issue persist and there has not been a solution found for this. Why not just move to stripe as a payment card solution if PayPal is being difficult.
I have just spent my whole day just trying to connect PayPal to QBO and no luck. I have moved from Xero to QB and it looks like am about to regret this decision.
