problems changing to single-user mode

We have four users serving seven different companies.  One of the company files will not allow us to change to single-user if opened in multi-user mode, even though no one else is in the file.  When this is attempted, the file locks and we need to have our IT guys reset services to unlock the file.

We have no such issues with the other six company files, only this one company.  Any ideas how to fix?

problems changing to single-user mode

Hello there, Perry1956.

If your QuickBooks Desktop (one company file) isn't updated yet, let's follow the steps below and download the latest update.  This ensures your company file always has the latest features and fixes. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Go to the Update Now tab. You can select the Reset Update checkbox to clear all previous update downloads.
  4. Select Get Updates to start the download.
  5. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.

It may also happen because of the network set up. We can download and run the QuickBooks File Doctor. It helps you fix the company files and network issues in QuickBooks Desktop. One more thing that we can do is to make sure that your Database Server Manager is properly setup. It allows users to access company data. To ensure you won't miss a single step and information, please follow the steps in this article: Use QuickBooks Database Server Manager
