backup and recovery

Our company is considering deploying QB Online Advanced. There seem to be many questions and concerns about native backup and recovery with this product. We use a third-party product to back up premise-based server data and to perform cloud-to-cloud backups of M365 data. What would be required to perform QB backups to a local server that could then be captured by the third-party product and saved to that cloud. What would be the format of the files saved locally?  If we had to restore a file from 5 years ago, for example, we'd want to be sure that the file format could still be restored to a copy of the current application or to a product like Excel that can still render older data. Are there any limitations to what kinds of QA Online data could be backed up locally?

backup and recovery

Thank you for reaching out about QuickBooks Online (QBO) Advanced backup and recovery options, @rj74. I got details that may be valuable as you consider your options.

Currently, QBO Advanced doesn't offer a direct option to perform backups to a local server for capture by a third-party product. However, it does have an option to save backups to Google Drive.

The program only utilizes an Online Backup and restore app that handles backups automatically or manually, but doesn't specify the exact file format for local backups. However, data backed up using the personal cloud archive feature (Google Drive) is saved in .cab format.

It's also worth noting that the program only retains backups for a year, and restoring data from personal cloud archives isn't currently supported.

For a more comprehensive understanding of QBO Advanced backup and restore capabilities, I highly recommend reviewing this resource: Back up and restore your QBO Advanced Company. It also highlights what data can and cannot be backed up or restored.

Maintaining secure and accessible backups of your financial data is undoubtedly essential to your operations, @rj74. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to ensure you find the best solution for your company's needs
