Is it possible to import my item list from desktop to online?
'move my books' seems not to be able to do that.
Hello RAY15, thanks for posting on the Community page, It wouldn’t be straight forward but you could theoretically export out the item list from desktop and add it to the sample spreadsheet to import into the Product and Services to QuickBooks Online but you would need to edit the data and take out any VAT items/groups ect from the export as Desktop classes these items, along with the stock items.
Why is it so complicated to move from Desktop to online?
I am a small business trying to make a living, I pay you for the software, I don't expect to be doing this type of data stuff, it's not my area at all.
This hasn't been thought through has it?
Ray, welcome to the world where Intuit don't care about their customers, especially the UK ones.
Get used to it or look for another accounting software. Also get used to moaning on here and nothing being fixed or changed.
We have obligations to do MTD vat filing, will this really leave us completely shut out of our software?
Hello RAY15, we are sorry to hear you feel this way about moving from desktop to our online product. Unfortunately this would be the only way to get your data into the account so you have it there.
Hello Mark, we do care about all of our customers, and we do take on aboard all what our customers are saying.
Ashleigh, so why after years of people complaining the most basic missing feature are still not fixed. You know the ones that are being endlessly repeated on these forums over and over again.
If Intuit did care about their customers why charge them to move their data when it was Intuit that put us all in this situation to start with.
If Intuit did care they would be a way better system on how to collect customers wishes and suggestion other than the faceless Feedback system currently employed.
If Intuit did care there would be more engagement by management with us the paying customer and why after 18 months the emailing from within QBO is still an ongoing issue with no fix.
If Intuit cared they would use reply bots on these forums. It just winds everyone up with the copy and pasted answers. Typically not even relating the question or issue asked.
If you are wondering why I complain so much Ashleigh, is because I care. I care that us customers should be given better support and listened to more. After all, we PAY Intuit.

But of course my reply in this thread is just more wasted effort. It's so sad that us Desktop users in the UK have been thrown on the scrap heap. Especially as there are so many of us who have been loyal to Intuit for decades.
You may consider purchasing another 3rd party conversion service.
@RAY15Ignore Fiat LUX. Bottom feeding community board scammer.
Can you prove that I am a scammer or are you just trolling here? No wonder your posts were always negative.
