How can I install my non-subscription QBD licence on a different machine - the installation asks for an activation code but there is nowhere to go to get a code. The 0[removed] number is a waste of time and the normal QBO support are not able to help.
Do you have QB Desktop 2020 for a single user license?
I have a 2010Pro licence which I have always used as a single user but may be could be multiple
As you may know, QBD UK version is discontinued. I wouldn't be surprised if Support refused to generate an activation code. If you can find the trial version for QBD 2010, you can use it as a workaround. Otherwise, use a newer version (e.g. QBD 2014) as another option.
Thanks for your reply - the UK QBO support people have checked my licence and tell me I am free to use it without support and that I have several installation opportunities left but have not offered me an activation code. Maybe I will try them again as there is no specific QBD support to contact
Hello Ray181, if you contact our QBO support they should be able to liaise with the senior team and get that code for you.
Thanks for reply, Having great difficulty contacting any support because the system cannot find my phone number linked to any QB account despite my Product Registration Card showing the same mobile number I am using so I have to try and sneak in through Sales. After 10 minute wait I have hung up and will try later!!
I have Quickbooks 2005 Pro and have payed €166.05 to activate but I have had no contact with you since
Best regards

Do you need to reinstall your QBD 2005 on the new machine or else?
Where is your company located? UK or another country?
I appreciate your time in reaching out to us, Joe. I understand you are trying to activate a UK version of QuickBooks Desktop.
I'd like to inform you that QuickBooks Desktop UK is no longer available or supported. This means that registration and activation codes can no longer be generated.
Can you provide more details on the payment you mentioned? What specifically was the payment for and how was the transaction processed? That additional context will help me look into this further.
In the meantime, I recommend migrating your company file data over to QuickBooks Online to continue recording and managing your business finances.
Here are some helpful resources on moving to QBO from the retired Desktop UK product:
I'd also like to share these articles to provide additional guidance if you'll be moving to QBO:
Please let me know if you need any help with the migration process, Joe. I'd be happy to get back here and provide assistance in moving your company file to QBO so you can resume your bookkeeping.
There have been several instances of misinformation on some threads regarding firstly, QBD working on Windows versions up to the latest (11). I can refer to QBD Pro 2014 specifically. It works beautifully on Windows 11. It has no compatibility issues.
The people who want to keep QBD are those who do not want an all-singing, all-dancing online version. They may have exceedingly small businesses, or maybe a charity where they want to simply keep track of incomings and outgoings and be able to reconcile bank accounts.
Versions of QBD were purchased for a cash payment and making that product unavailable because it cannot be registered again due to a computer failure or upgrade is simply not fair. While Microsoft drop operating systems as time progresses, they do not switch the software off.
If as you say, the version is so out of date, which I agree, then publish a one-time code that can be entered whenever the software has to be reinstalled. That action costs QuickBooks nothing but it would enhance their reputation as a fair company to do business with.
I will close by saying, I must take back some of the comments I made earlier in the thread regarding my own circumstances. I thought I would try one more time to register my version of QBD Pro 2014 direct from the Help menu. To my amazement, this time the process sailed through, and the product was re-registered. This was after spending days trying to get through to anyone at QB to discuss the subject without success. Did someone at QB take pity on me and flick a switch, who knows, but if they did, sincere thanks.
