Giving a client access

I can't seem to give my Client access to his QuickBooks.  I have QB Accountant online, so I have him set-up as a Client and I have sent him an invite by adding his email address as a user within the Clients QuickBooks attached to my Account.

When adding a user it doesn't give an option to set up a password, but when my Client accepts the invite, it is asking him for a password that hasn't been set-up yet?   It also says no account is linked to this email address.  Screenshot attached.

The plan is for us both to have access to his QuickBooks so he can do his day to day paperwork and I pick up the more detailed stuff.  Have I mis-understood how all this works?  He's never had a QB Account himself

Giving a client access

You can have him subscribed to QuickBooks Online, @AaronDavid as mentioned by my peer Ryan_M.

Here's how you can add clients who are new to QuickBooks:

  1. Go to the Clients menu from your QuickBooks Online Accountant account.
  2. Select Add client, then select Business or Individual.
  3. Enter your client's info, then select Subscription in the Products section.

Follow the next set of steps based on whether you want to add your client to your wholesale billing plan.

Giving a client access

Hi there @lornmac,

Thank you for providing a screenshot of the error message, it's much appreciated.

The message your client saw means that he hasn't created a QuickBooks Online (QBO) account yet, as you've said. He will need to access this web page and have him click the link Create an account. Look for it below the Sign in button.

Once he already finished creating a QBO account, confirm the email address used. By this time your previous invitation must have expired, so it's best to re-send it. They'll be able to log in to their QBO company now.

On a different note, here's an article that walks you through how to connect all your clients' accounts in one place: Connect accounts as a Master Administrator.

Thank you for this, it answers a question I had. Can you please post how to send an invitation to a client. You said "so it's best to re-send" ... the invitation. How do you send an invitation?

Hello AaronDavid, thanks for posting on this thread, so you would just delete the invite and resend it again to your client again.

Thank you. I haven't sent an invitation. How do you do that?

if you go to the Main cog wheel> manage user>add user>select what kid of access you want them to have >next>follow the steps enter the email address and name >save this will then send the client an invitation to accept in thier email to then access the account.

No, that will make him a user on my quickbooks. I want him to have his data on his own account
