Hi. If I have the main quick books app do I also need the mileage one as seems to do the same thing. Thanks.

With this information, things will make clear now, @brandonmower-out.

To confirm you do not need to have two apps.

The Mileage Tracking feature in QuickBooks Online makes it easier than ever to keep your records straight and help you get the deductions you deserve. The other app is for our Self Employed users which is a separate product.

The Mileage within your QBO account is a manual process of entering your business miles and vehicle expenses in which only Master Admin can do.

While the mobile app automatically tracks trips from start to finish. It detects and measures your trip using GPS, cell towers, and Wi-Fi to triangulate a user’s location. It also provides pinpoint accuracy and automatically recording the miles driven for any business-related trip. Drivers on your team can even use it to track their business miles without needing your presence all the time.

This is a huge benefit for users who don’t want to manually add their information into QuickBooks Online. It saves you the tedious work of staying on top of your driving, helping you focus on your work, your clients, and your business.

In case an employee uses their personal car for business trips in the future, feel free to visit this article here to track mileage reimbursements and pay employees for the expenses.

Let me know if you have other concerns or questions about Mileage. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Stay safe.

Hi. If I have the main quick books app do I also need the mileage one as seems to do the same thing. Thanks.

Hi there,@brandonmower-out.

The mileage tracker is already available in your country. This way, you can track your mileage with our mobile app or site and help you categorize your trip as business or personal with just a click away.

You'll have to click the Miles from the left menu, this way you can add your trips and use the mileage tracker in the mobile app.

Here's how to turn it on in the QuickBooks Mobile app:

  1. Tap Miles.
  2. Click Auto-tracking.
  3. Toggle Auto-tracking on.

Also, make sure that your phone has the correct location permission enabled.

Once finished with your trip QuickBooks mobile will automatically detect the starting and stopping locations then you'll have to categorize it as business or personal. Here's how:

  1. Click Miles.
  2. Swipe right to categorize the trip as personal, or swipe left to categorize it as a business.
  3.  Add a purpose for the trip, if it’s a business trip,
  4. Hit Save.

For the detailed process, please read out this article: Track mileage in QuickBooks Online.

Also, you can refer to this article about the troubleshooting guide on what to do if your mobile stopped tracking mileage: Android mileage tracking troubleshooting guide.

Please comment down below if have further concerns about mileage in QuickBooks. I'll be happy to help. Take care.

Hi thanks for the reply however that wasn't what I was asking.

I was asking if I needed both of your apps.  I am not sure what I would need both for? One seems more for mileage and the other for everything.

Does that make sense? I've attached an image.

Hi. If I have the main quick books app do I also need the mileage one as seems to do the same thing. Thanks.

You need the QuickBooks Online (QBO) app on your phone to track your trips, brandonmower-out.

The Mileage feature is inside the app, hence you need QBO. To track mileage automatically, simply follow the steps provided by my colleague above.

OK I will try again.

You provide 2 apps one is the main app QBO the other is for mileage. As the main app does mileage, do I need both apps as one app appears to do the same thing. I understand all of what you have said but you actually are not answering my question.

I'm not sure if I can make this any clearer however I would appreciate a proper response to the question rather than generic messages.

Thank you.
